Sunday Brunch at Crown Bakery! Trini Brunch and Rum Punch. #AYCE #DC #DMV #brunch #trinidad

The restaurant itself is a bit old but clean. Customer service started out questionable as we waited a full 5 minutes before someone came out from the back to attend to us, even though we called out several times. The woman that came out was nice enough and gave some good sized portions of curry with buss up shut. We also got some coconut bake and drops with a couple drinks. The coconut drops and bake lacked coconut though and the curry was ok but lacked flavour which is a complaint we’ve heard from quite a few islanders regarding Caribbean food in the DMV. They have an upstairs seating area but it was closed off and we were also a bit hesitant to leave our vehicle parked for any extended period of time, thus the choice to order take out. There are a few other Caribbean places around so we will def explore options.

Another neighborhood jam. The bake and shark was scrumptious - juicy, flavorful, filled with goodies. Best fish sandwich in DC. A must have - only available on the weekend. If you want to try all the goodies, show up early - several things were out when I arrived on a Saturday afternoon. The jerk chicken is perfectly spiced with good heat level. The pastries were crumbly and sweet (forgot to picture). The oxtail stew was tender. Can’t wait to go back! I followed the recommendation of a native Trinidadian.

Writing this review is long overdue. I have been a patron of Crown Bakery for almost a year, driving from Bowie, MD because the food and service is outstanding! From the time I enter this restaurant, "ah feel like ah back home - yeah, this a bias review from ah Trini." The staff makes every effort to make each customer feel welcomed, which is an essential element of great customer service. Then there is the food....every item, from the baked goods to the freshly prepared Trinidadian dishes, and the home made drinks (peanut punch, seamoss, sorrel) are superbly made. I don''t have to drive to NY for a good roti, current rolls, fish dinners or peas & rice. They have delicious vegetarian options (try the buss-up shot with pumpkin), and the cassava pone is gluten free - but it taste like it's from Frederick St, in POS :-). Give them try and...

So I drop my mom off next door at the hair salon and I’m walking back to my car, when I see this young fellow eating some curry chicken in the window. I look up and decide to stop in just to see what they had to eat. Didn’t seem like much food was displayed. But the presentation was well presented. I begin to ask the guy, “what’s that?”, “what’s that?”, “what’s that?”. He was patient with me and gave me a sample of the sauce for the fish. I was SOLD after I tasted it. I continue to get the large fish platter, yellow rice, greens, and he said I could get another so I get the curry potatoes. Man, one of the best hole in a wall spot I’ve been to in the city in a minute. Everything was good. If you haven’t tried their food and you like flavor in your food like I do, I believe you’ll love...
