Completely agree with the reviewer who wrote "Tourist trap. Overrated, overpriced. This place must benefit from ppl cruising Chuckanut with good moods and bad taste in tacos."
I gave it 2 stars bc grateful to have places to eat in that area, but it was way overpriced considering you order yourself and bus your table and are sitting on dumpster dive furniture. You are paying $20 for bland unseasoned food in small portions, no ambiance and mostly self service.
I ordered the chile relleno which was $20. It was standard and good but all i ate as the sides were awful, so small and left hungry for $20. The sides were unseasoned white rice and black beans that didn't taste like they were even salted. My husband ordered a dish that was also very pricey and unseasoned... bland is how i would describe our $40 meal.
I would think this was fine if $20, but not $40. A nearby couple ordered birria tacos which actually liked good, but again way overpriced as they were standard size you would usually only pay $10 for everywhere else and no sides.
Watch out for the orange "salsa." As the food was bland i tried spicing it up with red or green salsa which were also bland. So i reached for the orange, expecting some habanero and maybe mango given the color... it tasted like solely hananero and water.... super hot, no seasoning. So your options for flavor are bland or...
Read moreDefinitely the best Mexican food you will ever have in Washington, possibly anywhere in the world. Don't let the humble decor or paper plates fool you, Mariposa is among the best food I've had anywhere, regardless of type or price. The 6-8 taco choices rotate a little and are the one big soft tortilla style, not the small antojitos or taco truck style. They are formidable in size, so a second tortilla or a fork and knife usually helps get the job done. The contents are always hearty, based on traditional fare, with some savvy tweaks, and great spicy sauces to go with. Everything is hand made with love from the best ingredients possible. I've come here often and I am still floored by how great this place is. Do not miss out, but be warned; Mariposa might reset your expectations to be a very high bar, one rarely met by restaurants in general and basically never reached by what is passed off as Mexican food...
Read moreWe visited Mariposa in Edison on a Saturday afternoon. We sat outside in their garden seating. We ordered mole and gorditas, and a wet burrito plate. We ordered Tempache to drink. The food was flavorful. The gorditas were crisp on the outside and soft in the middle- they have a great bite. The fruit was fresh. The Tempache was made of pineapple juice, orange juice, mango, and cinnamon over ice, if I rememeber correctly. Traditionally, I believe Tempache was a fermented drink, Im not certain this one was, but it was good. If a good blended salsa is important to you, you'll find that here as well. My one complaint would be that my hot food was not hot. The service was good. The seating was great for summer outdoor dining. The food was really good. We...
