A Culinary Odyssey at MITA: Where Flavors and Stories Intertwine

From the moment you step through its doors, you're enveloped in an ambiance that exudes both sophistication and warmth, setting the stage for a remarkable culinary journey.

MITA's menu is a testament to the chef's unwavering commitment to showcasing the finest ingredients and pushing the boundaries of flavor. Each dish is a masterpiece, meticulously crafted with a harmonious blend of textures, aromas, and tastes that dance upon the palate. Whether you're indulging in the succulent seafood, savoring the perfectly cooked meats, or relishing the vibrant vegetarian creations, every bite is an explosion of culinary delight.

What truly sets MITA apart, however, is the chef's dedication to not only satisfying your taste buds but also enriching your understanding of the food you're enjoying. With each course, the chef personally visits your table, unveiling the origins of the dish, sharing the inspiration behind its creation, and recounting captivating anecdotes that transport you to far-off lands and ancient traditions. This immersive experience transforms your meal into a captivating narrative, where each bite becomes a chapter in a culinary story.

During our recent visit to MITA, we were fortunate enough to celebrate my eldest offspring's birthday. As our server presented their dessert, they extended a heartfelt "Happy Birthday" wish, acknowledging their non-binary identity with respect and inclusivity. This small gesture, though seemingly insignificant, resonated deeply with us, reaffirming MITA's commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

The culinary adventure began with an amuse-bouche of delicate sea urchin mousse, its briny sweetness a tantalizing prelude to the symphony of flavors that awaited. Next, we embarked on a journey to the coast of Spain with a dish of grilled octopus, its tender flesh infused with the smoky essence of the grill and complemented by a vibrant salsa verde. The journey continued with a foray into the heart of Italy, where we savored handmade ravioli filled with creamy ricotta and fragrant truffles, each bite a testament to the chef's mastery of pasta.

As the evening progressed, we ventured to the vibrant streets of Mexico, where we were greeted by a plate of charred corn, its sweetness enhanced by a dusting of chili powder and a drizzle of lime. The journey culminated in a decadent dessert of chocolate ganache, its richness tempered by a hint of sea salt and a dollop of tangy passion fruit sorbet.

Throughout the meal, the chef's passion for his craft was palpable, his enthusiasm infectious. He regaled us with tales of his travels, his encounters with local farmers and artisans, and his relentless pursuit of culinary perfection. His stories breathed life into each dish, transforming it from a mere plate of food into a window into another world.

In addition to the exceptional food and captivating storytelling, MITA boasts a wine list that is as extensive as it is impressive. The knowledgeable sommelier expertly guided us through the selection, recommending pairings that elevated each dish to new heights. The cocktails are unique and handcrafted with ingredients that are different from the average restaurant bar.

The service at MITA is impeccable, with attentive staff anticipating your every need without being intrusive. The ambiance is elegant yet unpretentious, with warm lighting, comfortable seating, and tasteful decor creating an inviting atmosphere. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply seeking a memorable dining experience, MITA is the perfect destination.

Its commitment to excellence, its passion for storytelling, and its inclusive approach make it a truly exceptional dining destination. If you're seeking a culinary adventure that will tantalize your taste buds, expand your knowledge, and leave you with lasting memories, look no...

Get to Mita as fast as you can. This has “soon-to-be Michelin” written all over it. This extraordinary Latin vegan dining experience is unlike any I’ve seen in DC. The moment you step through the door, the inviting, crisp environment and the top shelf staff welcome you. The menu is a culinary masterpiece, showcasing the artistry of plant-based cuisine with Latin flair.

Each of the thoughtful thirteen dishes I was served were full of vibrant colors and bold flavors that truly make your tastebuds sing. The chefs masterfully elevate both familiar and exotic ingredients, transforming them into gastronomic delights that defy expectations. I myself am not a vegan - but whether you're a committed vegan or a curious food enthusiast, the diversity of flavors will leave you hoping the meal never ends.

The tasting menu is a journey through Latin-inspired dishes that celebrate the richness of vegan ingredients. From the mind-blowing arepa platter to the exquisite plantain-based desserts, each course is a revelation. The menu joyfully flows via a welcoming Opening Act followed by First & Second main Acts rounded out by the Third Act - dessert. The chef's commitment to sustainability is reflected not only in the menu but also in the choice of locally-sourced, organic produce.

The attentive staff adds to the overall experience, offering impeccable service without overshadowing the star of the show—the food. The presentation is a feast for the eyes (LOVE the plating), and the attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the dining experience. My table was carefully tended by the team to ensure it remained spotless throughout the meal, my drink was always full, and any questions I had were quickly and aptly answered. I especially was impressed with the sommelier. He surprised my guest and I with a complimentary glass of Italian sparkling white wine that rivaled the best champagne I’ve ever had. He was friendly, generous, and displayed a gift for story telling that feels rarer these days. Head chefs and co-owners Miguel and Tatiana were wonderful hosts and a pleasure to meet. A truly impressive duo.

This newly minted gem is more than a restaurant; it's a celebration of the art of vegan gastronomy with a Latin heartbeat. When you choose to dine here you’ll be immersing yourself in an unforgettable evening that will not only please your palate, but also leave you with a newfound appreciation for the limitless possibilities of plant-based cuisine. The entire experience will stick with you, tempting you to return and savor the magic once again. I am excited to have Mita in the neighborhood and know I will...

Wow, we had a pretty amazing meal. Service is exceptional and attentive - we had our water filled a couple times for each dish, table wiped often, always happy to answer questions, etc. To celebrate my birthday we sprung for the 14 dish tasting; it was incredible but be warned it really does take 3 hours (one part of the website says 2 hr by mistake), and you will be totally stuffed by the end.

We enjoyed everything we ate, but the arracacha and uyuni were real standouts. The arracacha is an amazing creamy potato oniony soup with a super rich Japanese mushroom broth dashi (cooked for 12 hrs). It tasted like a mix of really great udon broth and potato soup and French onion soup, with a fun twist from the whole fava beans and sweet plantain chunks. It's a pretty good size bowl and it's rich and comes early on, so my wife had to pack up half of hers to bring home (bring your own tupperware, total quantity of food is high and they don't have to go containers).

Uyuni is a dark chocolate ribbon with a beautiful white finish over a yuca cake topped with purple corn mousse, served with lovely cherimoya ice cream and tiny dots of gelled Bolivian liquor. It's supposed to look like the Bolivian salt flats, and was a real triumph visually, texturally, and especially the taste.

The five kinds of arepas with three fillings was also a favorite (although the avocado cilantro was one oddly bland, the heart of palm and fruit ones were exceptional). Ceviche, pearl barley, and the masa churro (which has both chanterelles and fresh black truffles) were our other favorites. The causa was the only thing we found disappointing; still fine and worth eating, just less good than the rest.

I was surprised that as a birthday gift they brought out not only a great yuzu-raspberry sorbet topped with flowers and gold leaf (I wish they'd skip that, it feels wasteful), but a little music box that played happy birthday when you turned a crank!

With a 4-wine pairing we shared, one mocktail, 4% service charge, tax, and tip it was quite a pricey meal, but it was definitely worth it! We might return for the 4 course option (tu-th only) to save $ next time, since it had our top dishes in it. Food is all vegan but you...
