Had a chance to finally experience this ice cream shop. It's not a large place and service was slow but it was a Saturday afternoon. The culprit of the slowness is the result of some of the crazy desserts this place creates.
On my visit, people were lined up outside, which made the front part of the shop a little warm. I'm sure the AC was huffing and puffing. However, I didn't hear any complaining and why would they - they were waiting for ice cream.
I'm not an ice cream connoisseur so I can't offer any comments about the shop's overall product, such as texture, sweetness, creaminess. I'll leave that to the experts. Like anything, though, it either pleases or it doesn't and the ice cream I had at Mainstreet Creamery was pleasing.
The staff is mostly young adults with a few seasoned employees hanging around for the ride. Everyone was busy, everyone was friendly, people were having a good time.
I read one review where someone thought the shop was pricey and it probably is if you go for one of the high-end shakes that is three or four desserts rolled into one. I chose something simple and the price was in step with other places that serve ice cream. If price is a concern, stay within your means. It's like going out to dinner - if you can't afford a $40 steak, go someplace and get a burger. Just get out and have fun.
Ice cream shops are supposed to be fun and I enjoyed this place because I was with friends and we enjoyed our desserts. Plus, it was fun watching people and listening to many customers asking "What's that?" as someone walked away from the counter with a jar overflowing with ice cream, cake, whipped cream, multiple toppings, and other stuff.
I visited from St. Louis and this won't be a regular stop but I would go again if my travel takes me to Washington, which is a must-see town if you like to see what an old Missouri River town looks like. There are some impressive old buildings, nice shops, decent restaurants, and a nice place to get a dessert, the Main...
Read moreUnfortunately full of drama. Great ice cream but not so great to work there. Some great workers. But not recognized. I was not late for 5 of them. I was told I could leave early as if result in having too many workers. I did take some. I have twin 3 month olds. Yes if they sick/waiting on babysitter I will let you know. I was never more than an hour late. I completely know 100% why I was “let go” you can of course show the text messages. I have absolutely nothing to hide. I just don’t think it’s professional to talk awful about some of the employees there. This is my first review I made. I don’t know about the other one star. It was a fun place to work besides the drama. No one should go in the back and cry because they heard someone talk bad about them. Or talk about how bad of an employee they are too another that also talks bad behind people’s back. I did what I was told. I covered a shift for someone else. I was late twice I know of. And I let you and the other employee that was there that morning I would be late due to babysitting issues. But please if you’re going to let someone go, don’t be untruthful about who else be taking over my place. Like I said great business but behind closed doors it wasn’t enjoyable. Some employees won’t open up about it but I have no problem talking about. No owner/keyholder shouldn’t talk smack on people behind their backs. If there was an issue or something not done right why not just tell them or teach them PROPERLY. Before talking awful about them. And if anyone wants the see the group messages and text messages. More than...
Read moreI went in with super low expectations, but I was absolutely blown away!! I expected they would serve some crappy ice cream like Blue Bunny. But no! They serve Kempf, which I’d never heard of. But now I’m in love and I’ll look for it everywhere I go! One of their more interesting/unique flavors? Blue Moon. It’s (you guessed it) blue. And it tastes like fruit loops! But I have to say that my absolute favorite was the S’more Brownie. The ice cream base was super flavorful and the brownie and marshmallows were plentiful.
Hubby got a very impressive looking Oreo Shake - it had a bunch of over the top crazy stuff perched on top. I definitely enjoyed the chocolate frosting that was spread over the rim. But I was so-so on the shake itself, even though hubby seemed to like it. But our friend Mr. M got a Key Lime Pie Shake that featured an entire slice of pie sitting on top. I would’ve loved to have tried that one!
They also offer some baked goodies!! I was dying for a slice of their gooey butter cake, but the two scoops of ice cream were so huge, I just...
