Upscale jewel. My two teenaged sons and I had the pleasure of staying and dining at the Old Dutch Hotel & Tavern this summer. We traveled from Dallas to bike the KATY Trail and made reservations to stay there after reading some reviews. We are glad we did. This was our favorite overnight of our trip. Working with the hotel manager, Jackie Schell, prior to departure was a pleasure. She made a number of suggestions that really improved this leg of the journey for us (including introducing us to Joe Ferguson at Revolution Cycle). Check-in was a breeze and everyone made us feel right at home. Jackie really cares that her guests enjoy the hotel, the restaurant and Washington. Angela couldn't have been nicer, as well.

This hotel has been completely renovated to a very high standard. The bathroom finish out, fixtures, soaps and towels are very high end. The rooms are also very nice with high quality beds and linens. All very clean and very well maintained.

We also had a delicious dinner at the Tavern with top notch service by Linda, our waitress. She provided just the right amount of attention and her menu suggestions were spot on. I had the salmon, which was prepared perfectly. Great atmosphere.

I have traveled the world for business and pleasure and have stayed at many high end hotels. The Old Dutch is one I will always remember. It is not easy to tastefully renovate a historic structure, it is even harder to find people to manage it well, once it is open. The Old Dutch nails this...

On our more recent visit 2/2/25 I order the chicken pot pie that I had heard from my daughter was very good. It wasn't bad but the crust was kind of limp instead of crispy. My husband had some sort of chicken sandwich that he said was very good.

Went in with my husband because of the pulled pork sandwich only to find out it had been taken off the menu. But that isn't my main complaint..we went there for lunch today and the hostess/waitress started to take us to one of the tables with the barstool type seating. I tried to explain to her that these are very uncomfortable for us older folks and could we sit at one of the empty tables for 4. She said that it was reserved for parties of 4 but as I looked around at some of the other tables exceptions had clearly been made to accommodate other patrons. One woman was occupying a table for 4 by herself. Our food was acceptable enough although their chicken salad needs something besides celery in it. And to add insult on top of the discomfort of sitting in the barstool to eat the table that had been empty when we arrived remainded that way the entire time we were eating and was still empty when we left.

My take on the whole situation is the gal that seated us didn't want the additional table to serve so she passed us off on the guy tending bar.

Pulled pork sandwich on chibata with coleslaw was a...

I can't say enough about this stay. We were able to stay because of a last minute cancellation and as a vendor for a local market the location couldn't have been better. A short walk to my booth instead of traveling made for a restful weekend after a long day in the sun. The room was straight to the point with a bed, sink and bathroom but was exactly what I needed. There is a small TV and desk. There isn't housekeeping during the stay but the room was so clean and fresh when we arrived. The shower and water pressure we both really nice too 😉 perfect for relaxing after the day! The bed was also very comfortable.

We stayed for two nights and both were quiet and nice on our third floor room. The staff in both the tavern and hotel were accommodating and friendly. Being outside in the heat all day we needed to fill our water and ice cooler a few times. They allowed us to do so.

Between the convenience of proximity to the downtown area and the nice quiet atmosphere when we returned I couldn't have asked for a better stay for this weekend. I will definitely be returning and recommend anyone spending time in downtown Washington; wether for a visit, event or passing through.

While we didn't get a chance to try the food this trip, the bar was stocked and bartender...

Apps: Wings: Were pretty small. Had the dirty wings and the flavor was excellent but prefer bigger wings. Calamari: The plus was to see tentacles in the mix but they needed to sit in the basket and drain the grease a little longer. Batter was tasty and the jalapenos we're a nice touch. Dinner: The pot pie was the 💣, flaky crust, piping hot and flavor for days. 👍👍👍 My son even ate half and didn't pick out the veggies since the flavor was great. Burger: Ordered medium, it was more on the med-well side, the patty was fresh and the seasoning was on point but due to the over doneness it was a little on the dry side. This one came on cibatta which was different but good. Fries were fair. I tried the pumpkin beer and it tasted phenominal. I will add to my review once I return as I will be back when in the area just heading straight to the main courses next time. Good quaint local spot.

My fourth stay in approximatelly 8 years. Always looking forward to this part om my USA visits as the hotel is excellent value for money and the food in the tavern is superb. Last night it was a delicious calamari (how far are we from the coast again???), finger lick licking good twice fried buffalo wings and chicken pot pie with a delicate crust. All served with a friendly smile by Nichola. This evening I just had appetizers. The toasted ravioli was a unique experience and the potato and bacon soup was to die for. Although not much of a sweet tooth, I dad some apple crumble pie with ice cream too. It sure is good. Yes, there is no cupboard for your clothes, yes the breakfast is basic self help, but throw in some stunning old school architecture and this facility, as a package, is right up there with one of my best global travel memories.

The restaurant was really nice. The decor was very cool and old looking from the early 1900's if I was guessing. The fans were my favorite part of the decor as they were all operating on a single motor with big belts connecting them. But that was nothing compared to the food. I had the strawberry and jalapeno glazed salmon. It was phenomenal. The steamed broccoli was also extremely tasty. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledge about the menu. I will definitely go back again. I would highly recommend the place to everyone. UPDATE: I did go back and found it all very good. My family really enjoyed what they got. I had the salmon, with an apple cider glaze, with a side of asparagus. The asparagus was great and the salmon was wonderful. Once again I would give this place a five-star rating!
