Smokey's — Restaurant in Washington

I have been coming here for over 30 years. Now that it is under new management, service is beyond rude. I usually come in the evening so the young lady (and lady is an extreme exaggeration) is usually running shop. I've witness her disrespect her own mother in tone and word choice. So today I arrive just before 6pm and it usually closes at 6:30pm. I knocked on the door after driving 50 minutes to come to this whole in the wall, passing several suitable establishments along the way. This lady flips me off and says we ran out of food. Its not what you say but how you say it. Let alone how do you run out of food? In a food establishment. Its like KFC running out of chicken. Either way poor planning, poor service, and poor management will quickly kill this historic establishments reputation.

The food is great, always hot and fresh. But disrespect for me is intolerable especially Im spending money let alone going out of my way to do so. Until management changes I wont be there again anytime soon. That is why I rated this 1 star because this 1 particular girl is so rude Im surprised noone has broken...

Was at Rock Creek Tennis Center & famished, so looked online & found this little gem of a neighborhood diner. A local came in & recommended the potato wedges - glad she did b/c they were fantastic! Also had an enormous club sandwich - so much food, I couldn't even close the fairly large container - only $7 but enough for 2 hungry people! Very sweet Hispanic lady taking orders & prepping all the food... in incredibly hot conditions with a smile on her face. It was 98° & humid outside, but even hotter inside!! Very hard working woman who more than earned a generous tip from me!! Great little local dive diner with 1980s prices - I'll be back...

10/10 recommend. Menu has hardly changed in all its years and the prices are still incredibly reasonable. Wings and mumbo sauce are authentic. As a native of the DMV her sauce was on point. A little old lady helped us out and prepared our food for me and my wife and it was phenomenal. I don’t know what these other people did to get kicked out because we walked right in, told her what we wanted, paid for our food and went on our way. She even provided us with extra mumbo sauce at no extra charge. Great spot to stop at and grab a bite to eat, or dinner. Great spots outside to sit and eat and enjoy the DC...
