Maybe don’t make your pizza the star dish. I recently visited The Owl in New Preston, CT, and while the Bee Sting pizza showed some promise with its mozzarella, honey, soppressata, red pepper flakes, and red sauce, it ultimately fell flat. The flavor was passable, but the consistency was off—the texture was even worse than that of a frozen pizza, making it a disappointing experience for a pie that should have been a highlight.
On a brighter note, the Brussels sprouts, dressed in apple cider vinegar and truffle oil, were tasty and offered a redeeming quality amidst the otherwise lackluster fare. However, both dishes were outrageously overpriced. For a pizza that barely reaches 10 inches, a price tag of over $20 is unjustifiable when it should have been closer to $8. Similarly, while the Brussels sprouts were well-prepared, they too could have been priced below $17.
Given the steep prices and subpar quality, I’m definitely not returning to The Owl. If you’re craving a gourmet pie, I’d recommend trying Bohemian Pizza instead, or if you prefer a local favorite, Washington Pizza or Bantam Pizza might be a better bet. And as a friendly tip to The Owl: if you’re serious about improving your pizza, consider reaching out to Olivia—the previous tenant of the building known for her amazing mushroom Gorgonzola pizza—who has since moved her business to...

Read moreThe food itself was good, but the experience was completely soured by the owner’s rude and combative behavior.
We ordered the bread pudding, but it arrived without silverware. After repeatedly asking several members of the wait staff, we finally received utensils—by which time the ice cream had already melted. Our waiter was kind enough to offer a fresh scoop and took the dessert away to replace it.
About ten minutes later, a man I assume was the owner came over—not with our dessert, but to tell us they were “out” of bread pudding. When I asked what happened to the one we had just sent back for ice cream, I was shocked to hear that it had been given away to another table.
When I questioned why our dessert had been handed to someone else instead of simply fixing it, the owner immediately became defensive, snapping at me that there was “no need to have an attitude” and making snarky remarks instead of addressing the issue. His tone was unnecessarily combative and extremely unprofessional.
Even our server later profusely apologized for the owner’s poor behavior. Unfortunately, the damage was done. The food may be decent, but the management’s attitude was so appalling that I would strongly caution anyone...
