I should have known..... was the phrase I kept saying as it just got worse and worse. Let me give it in a brief summary here first. They locked customers outside, terrible customer service, food is standard fare for an upscale price, place feels pretentious and bias toward locals only.
Researching the place the menu picture isn't even close to accurate... looks like at 1950 era menu, I have a feeling this place is stuck back in the 50's and not in the positive nostalgia way more like a corrupt sheriff who's running the town sort of way.
Customer service was sub par, felt it early but decided to hold out and see if it was just a fluke. It did not get better. Getting the correct number of silverware and condiments was a challenge. Getting a chance to order took too long. Even if they were busy (which at the time we arrived it was just average) two service staff working the outside with 4 sets of customers should be able to get the correct number of menus, silverware, and drink orders within the first 15 min.
I should have known... go somewhere else, walk away now!
Stuck it out, as it seemed the staff spotted their mistake....
It did not get better. Food arrived fast enough but after that basically never saw a staff member again. In fact we caught a glimpse of one just as they shut and locked the door between the outside section and the restaurant itself. Really? There are customers out here, and you close the damn door on them? It wasn't even cold or windy or rainy, so whomever inside was having a fit about an open door, you don't neglect the customers outside.
Drink refills... nope, not even the 1 promised... seriously almost $3 for 12 oz. of ice and some drink in there... wow.
At this point I felt justified to just walk away, locked out, severe lack of service, and a rather high price for the amount of food we got. But, I'm not a dime and dash sort, in fact I'm usually a 20% tipper. Not today, after having to walk all the way around the restaurant then wait in line... no....
Not worth it, regressive and scatterbrained staff, price is way to much for what you get, if this is the local spot for fish and chips avoid it, try one of the other...
Read moreWent last weekend on a Friday evening. It was moderately busy. It was old and dirty on the inside. Still smelled like cigarettes from the days when people could smoke inside. It was a promising dive style restaurant. Had a good menu and I was hungry. Didn't have a single person greet us or even acknowledge our presence. Another couple there told us they heard it was a 25 minute wait for a table. That's fine. I had no problem waiting. Tried to speak to a waitress/bar tender and ask about seating availability in the bar because I saw a couple dirty tables that hadn't been cleaned after the previous patrons left. Was ignored. Finally caught her eye. She said a table "might" be available in a little while. She never cleaned them so that option was taken off the table so to speak. Still no acknowledgement from the restaurant area waitresses. Several couples came in after us. One woman had a hoody with the Traylors restaurant logo on it. She either worked there or was a regular. Her and her husband were immediately greeted and the waitresses chatted them up for some time. Still we were ignored. I stood patiently waiting. Not acting agitated. Although as time passed I was becoming impatient on the inside. Finally after 10-15 minutes we decided to take our business elsewhere. A simple "Hello folks, we're a little busy right now but give us 20 minutes and we will have you seated." Or " Let me see if we can get you a seat in the bar." would have gone a long way. Moral of the story; if you're a local yokel you will be treated like royalty. If you are from out of town you will likely be ignored. Spent our money at a delicious pizza place that smelled like balls and...
Read moreWith all of the positive reviews and proclamation of, "our very best seller for over 50 years" I thought I better check this place out and try their fish and chips.
The restaurant has a very nice old feel to it, rather than a modern day one, which I think is great to see. In a way it keeps the feeling of where these towns came from years ago instead of having to have the latest and greatest.
Everything was very clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
When my plate of fish and chips and coleslaw arrived, it had your usual appearance as you'd find from any restaurant. I started with the coleslaw and found it to be rather underwhelming. There was zero flavor to it, as if it had been made 5 minutes ago and no seasoning or improper ingredients to give it any flavor. Next were the chips, aka french fries. Though french fries are next to impossible to screw up, these tasted like average fries. I could not tell if they were frozen or fresh. I would recommend any quality restaurant take the time to make fresh every order from real potatoes. Support your local farms that support you. And finally the fish. I do not know how you can make your own batter and have it be your number one seller and have zero flavor. The fish and the batter literally had no seasoning on it. Might as well have not had any coating and just dipped the fish in hot oil and said here you go.
I do not doubt that this restaurant once was great, and I am sure they are more than capable of still being a great restaurant. But they've got some work to get back to having a star dish...
