underGROUNDS Espresso Bar — Restaurant in Washington

Love the vibe and the great selection of baked goods. I wish they had more options for frappés and flavored coffees, but the vanilla bean was still good. If you're more of a die hard coffee fan, without all the syrups and whipped cream, this is your place.

Update 5/16/22 - Love the new place! Great selection of choices for food, bakery and coffee! Server was so sweet and thoughtful. Absolute best cafe food in the area. They finally have blended and flavored coffees! If you're in the area, definitely give Undergrounds a try!

Update 10/15/2023 - The food was fresh, much more upscale than normal cafes, and I love the abundance of options. The bakery case was full of decadent looking treats, from huge groumet cupcake, to croissants, brownies, eclairs and more. Clothes, pins, cigars, etc., But above the delicious treats and beautiful ambiance, the customer service here is amazing -- so refreshing. Definitely one of my favorite bougie...

Loved our visit. The decor, the feel...everything. Ample outdoor seating with great views, although we preferred to be indoors. Wonderful service. The gooey butter cake is easily the best I've ever eaten. The dirty chai was decent. Avacado arugula toast with an egg was good but I wasn't wow'ed by it like I thought I would be. The toast was a bit tough but the dish was flavorful. I would have loved a bit of fresh arugula on the side, but didn't think to ask. 😁 Hubs had a grilled chicken sandwich. It was good but again, nothing set it apart as an "OMG I NEED THAT AGAIN!" dish. He said the bourbon pecan sticky bun was good, as was his latte. We will definitely visit again on our next trip...

Undergrounds is a great coffee shop. They specialize in every type of coffee drink you can imagine, and their food offerings are excellent. I especially love their avacado toast. The kitchen staff will cook all sorts of breakfast items to order, and their sandwiches (breakfast and lunch) are unique and wonderful. The service is top-notch; they give you a beeper when you order, but most of the time, they are at your table with your order as soon as it starts beeping!
