Highland Garden — Restaurant in Waterbury

My girlfriend and I used to enjoy getting this once in a while as a quick take out after a long day. However on 11/12/2014 we ordered some beef with broccoli and boneless spare ribs for takeout with some wanton soup. We picked it up ten minutes after we called. When we got home we opened the bag and everything seemed fine, we had our soup first. When it came time to open our meal I noticed an odd smell coming from the boneless spare ribs. Thinking I must just be tired and thinking things and smelling things. I tasted one and it had a horrible taste, probably the worst thing I have tasted and my girlfriend said the same thing. I do not know why I even tried a small piece. The smell was that of rancid meat and a rotting taste. It was obvious that either they were using old meat or that someone did not pick up their order earlier in the day and they decided to re use the stuff. Something was wrong and the smell of rotting meat is not something that you can shake off quickly.

I called Highland Garden and I told the lady who answers the phone. She said "That is not possible, I just made two other orders, always fresh". She was playing the dumb card. We obviously did not eat the beef and broccoli either. So we wasted about 18 dollars all said and done with tip and the take out chinese place was of no help.

I would suggest nobody eat here if they are willing to put obvious spoiled food in a container then who knows what else...

I live close to this place...every few years I give it a chance..my favorite was always new moon on highland ave, but they are farther...they no longer deliver..and i read their recent reviews which were not good...so i decided to give Highland Garden a chance again...huge mistake! The orange chicken...you can tell they havent changed there fry baths in far too long...always a sign of a poor quality chinese restaurant...totally burnt crunchy burnt taste... food it was SO GrOSs...It was burnt and dipped in sauce...nasty.. when you walk in to pick up it smells like STRAIGHt cat piss..my food wasthe worst chinese i have ever had...to the garbage can and i ...iwould NEVEr GO back....UpdAte...it's been 8 months and my roommate....who only gets chicken fried rice wanted to order here....As usual total mistake...they do not change the oil in their fryers....not only that I asked for white meat chicken...i got theses strange burnt pieces...garbage...idk how this place stays in business...if you like it here....you have no clue what good food...

I spent $76 buying platters for my family. I have the chicken fried rice and chicken wings. The rice was disappointing at best. The chicken in it had a very suspicious texture to say the least. After getting over the look and texture of the chicken in my rice, I decided to have a girl at the actual wings. Unfortunately they tasted like burnt grease. I would like to note that the highlights of the night were the duck sauce and fortune cookie - both of which came from outside sources. Highland Garden, you’ve let me down if I could give your food a negative star I would. 😔 to end this on a good note I will say the service was great and the people were very friendly…
