Per our request we were seated on the front patio. Service was great. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Called in advance prior to arrival since we were traveling from Massachusetts to New York. We wanted to get permission to be seated in patio area with small covered baby carriage that had two well behaved sleeping 7 lb senior (13 years & 14 year old) dogs. They are heavily medicated needing meds every 4 hours for health conditions. The temperatures were extreme 90 degrees so they could not be left unattended in car. I was given permission by a person i spoke to via a phone call to dine with them in patio. We were greatful. Unfortunately the server took our order delivered our food and stated the manager wanted the dogs removed. Mind you no one else was dining in the patio area except for us. I complained since I did call 20 minutes earlier to get permission and was told it was OK. So we were allowed to eat our meal after all. Word to the wise. Even though you get permission via telephone call in advance just prior to arriving do not consider dining at Mary's if you have quiet well behaved concealed pets in a small carriage apparently someone in management does not communicate well with staff when customers call for permission. We did like the restaurant but were upset they changed their mind after delivering our food. We will not return to this place when we travel through...
Read moreI used to come here all the time . And latley there service has been horrible. My last two experiences. I went one day with my daughter I had to ask the waitress 4 times for lemon which I never got and when the food came the French toast was horrible no flavor and the strawberries where bitter . The waiteress came back around and almost poured coffee into my daughter's tea . 2nd time went out with a group of friends . Was in the mood for a grilled cheese and a soup on the menu they have grilled cheese fries and coleslaw for 5.25 or 5.75 something around that price range . I asked the waitress if the could do a soup and grilled cheese she stated no we don't do that here so . I said that was fine I would just like a grilled cheese nothing else I wasn't in the mood for fries and I don't like coleslaw . Food comes coleslaw on the plate with the grilled cheese and I was charged full price on the bill for coleslaw fries and the grilled cheese . It's sad to say that I will not step foot in this place ever again and one of the reasons I continued to go because I used to go all the time with my mom when the staff was friendly and the food was great , and since her passing it was one of the good time I had with her and it use to be a...
Read more(First Post: 2021) My dad and I visit this diner often! I'm originally from South Carolina and truly found Mary's Diner by accident when searching for a restaurant that served grits. And she did! Anything we have gotten there, as been tasty. The portion size is good, like my dad says, "anywhere else you get two small ham peices, whereas at Mary's you get an 8 inch ham steak, to dad it's abit salty, but that is HIS PERSONAL PREFERENCE, but he still eats it no matter what. I personally love Mary's omelet which has feta, cherry tomatoes, and spinach. She has a wide variety of different omelets and meals, as well as a variety of toasts, and overall a large menu. You can miss going a month, and Mary will still remember you, which makes it quite personable when you visit. We traveled all the way from Torrington for those grits!!
(Update:2024) Mary's Diner, is still an all time favorite place for us to go to for on a Saturday morning. The food is still amazing! The staff always remember you even if you haven't been in a couple of weeks or months. It is always hustling and bustling with guests, it is NEVER empty! That should say...
