No service provided. My guy and I are of color. After visiting Vermont for a week we asked around for a great place to have breakfast and was told that Maxi's is a great place to have breakfast and lunch. So, we decided to travel to Maxi's. Unfortunately, we did not experience the food. When we walked into the restaurant, we were given a device that texted available seating (Okay). The device went off about 10 minutes (awesome!). We sat at the counter and understood how busy things where at the time and were okay. Excited to see the hearty breakfast and lunch items being pushed out of the kitchen we were hungry for breakfast! The wait staff seemed pleasant as we ordered our breakfast entree's and waited in anticipation. I ordered sausage egg benedict with a side of bacon and fries (hollandaise on the side). My guy ordered goat cheese omelet with a side of bacon. We happened to arrive between the end of breakfast and beginning of lunch time, so the seating began to melt away with only a few couples who were at the counter and closing out their meal. Soon after, a customer walked in and sat to the right of the counter from my guy and ordered breakfast, egg benedict and sides. The customer shortly received his order. Now, the restaurant is small, so there were three people at the counter including us and a few customers on the floor of the restaurant that remained. My guy and I looked at each other and figured okay no big deal our orders are on the way. Next, another customer walked in and sat to my left at the counter and ordered breakfast. Shortly, after the waitress came out of the kitchen with his egg benedict and sides, my guy I looked at each other surprised as we witnessed that the order that came out of the kitchen was not my order after waiting for several minutes for service, but was for the patron who came into the restaurant within a few minutes and received his service. We thought why is it taking so long? After we sat for 35 minutes and watched both guy's chowing down their orders we left the restaurant (which never happens with us). I was extremely disapointed as one of the wait staff near the door said, "Have a good day". Although disgusted we graciously exited the restaurant and said nothing. I want to also add that I've worked for a major company in Boston as a Corporate Program Coordinator in Conference and Meeting for many years and have traveled to many destination with recommendation of places to eat especially in New England. I understand how at times it takes a while to wait for food orders, but for the first time ever, we walked out of the restaurant hungry and disapointed. Moving forward the staff should become more aware of making sure that they serve all...
Read moreThe food was subpar, some of the waitress were nice, but there was one thing at the end of our dining experience that almost ruined it. My family and I are from out of state, and Vermont is an expensive state compared to where we live. The food wasn’t too pricey, but just enough to put a dent into our wallets. Our waitress made a few mistakes, but people are people and it happens to everyone, so we completely understood. When the bill came, we paid and tipped 15 percent of the bill (minus the seven cents that the 15 percent included). We usually tip about 20%-25%, but as I’ve mentioned before, Vermont is quite expensive so we stuck to 15%. We paid and as my uncle and I were waiting to use the restroom, I noticed that our waitress, currently was entering the money into the register, shaking her head. I didn’t pay no attention to this, but as my mother came around to meet us by the restroom door, she commented to my mother, “Was there something wrong with my service?” My mother was taken aback and said “I’m sorry, did I pay the wrong amount?” The heavy set woman huffed, shook her head, and turned around. She then commented that “there is no tip” and then a moment later saying that she “only received 1 dollar as a tip”, which was not the case at all, because I, myself, double counted the money we were paying with. My uncle graciously asked if she would have liked to receive a tip higher than the fifteen percent we left, but she refused and gave a tight lipped smile, said “I’m fine, thanks” and walked away, once again shaking her head in an attitude. It was rude of her to comment on the amount of money we paid for a tip, especially since it was a good amount. If my family and I were in a tough place with money, then it would have been even ruder. This was not a good end to our stay in Vermont and I can easily say that we will not be visiting Maxi’s...
Read moreThere's not a lot to choose from that's convenient to I-89 once you leave South Burlington, so it was with a happy stomach that I discovered Maxi's on a Tuesday afternoon. The added plus of these easy on-easy off stop in Waterbury is that breakfast is/was available all day. I ordered the Potato Verde...and being accustomed to real New Mexico green chile, was not expecting too much. The dish was good, for the Green Mountain state, but not outstanding, and I was happy to discover a collection of house hot sauces to pep up the plate of potato, egg, and peppers. My potatoes could have been cooked a little more (I like my home fries a little crisped), and definitely needed a bit more seasoning. Although a bit mild, the salsa verde was the highlight of the house trio of sauces. Across from me, the order was Biscuits and Gravy with eggs and the biscuits stole the show. Light and fluffy and the size of frisbees, they put other restaurant biscuits to shame. The gravy was plentiful and rich with a savory flavor. Service was friendly and energetic, and the coffee flowed, which was important. I'll be passing Maxi's on a regular basis, and will be sure to stop in again to check out other...
