Pupas Kitchen (Aunt Chelda’s Caribbean Queen) — Restaurant in Waterbury

"Adopt me Auntie" The food was so good at Aunt Chelda's that I'd like for her to adopt me so I can have it all the time. I was in the mood for curry so I looked up Jamaican restaurants in Waterbury. I've been to most of them. Such as, Mikey's, Caribbean Kitchen, and Berties. All good places. Then I see a listing for Aunt Chelda's Caribbean Cuisine. What's this? This must be new. Aunt Chelda's is on the corner of Meriden Rd and Alexander Ave in a small storefront. Look for the bright orange sign. It's primarily a take-out restaurant, but they do have four stools at a narrow counter for dining in. I was lucky enough to grab a seat. I had a small Curry Chicken. But "Small" isn't so small. You get your moneys worth for sure. She took a small take-out container and filled it with rice and peas. Then added her cabbage and veggie mix on top of one half of that. And then she mounded the tender curry chicken on top of everything. Aunt Chelda's is the best Caribbean food I've ever tasted. Everything was seasoned very well. Rice and peas were great. Curry chicken was excellent. But the biggest surprise was the cabbage. Usually I find the cabbage to be something just to fill the plate. You might say a boring after thought. But Aunt Chelda's cabbage is so flavorful, I could eat a bowl of it with nothing else. I told her as I was leaving that if her Curry Chicken is that good, I can't wait to taste the Oxtail...

Went for the first time today. I get what I usually get at Jamaican spots. Stew chicken/Brown Stew chicken. Got a good-sized portion and it tastes good and fresh. The lady there was very friendly and personable. There's a couple of tables around but this is pretty much a grab-and-go place. There's not a lot of room for parking but pulling up the side street that it's next to would probably work if there's no room in front to park.

Freshly cooked meals made with authentic seasonings. This place is a gem, the service is precise with a friendly atmosphere. I'm not one to order curry chicken or curry goat at restaurants but this place nailed it. Great location with a clean environment. I would suggest this place, their standards are high and cleanliness is visible. Try it for yourself oh they're also on Uber eats which makes it easier for me to have dinner...
