Pie Guys — Restaurant in Waterbury

I took a chance with Pie Guys one night when I was simply tired of bad pizza in my local town. and boy, did it pay off. For one thing, the best prices of Any Italian place I know of within 30 miles. More importantly,really good food. I’ve worked in restaurants all my life & I’m from NY so I know good Italian food .

I tried a 12 inch cheese pie, with tomatoes & mushrooms. I requested light cheese, heavy sauce, a light bake & soft crust because of teeth issues. Perfect. My snapshot says it all. Flavors were fresh and better than 7 of the 8 restaurants in my area (Wallingford). I also ordered a spaghetti with marinara dinner. The sauce had nice tomato chunks, the way we did it in NYC & the way my grandmother made it. You need whole cooked tomatoes basically smashed, not processed to make this sauce. You can’t get away with crushed from a can plus purée & paste. All the local places by me do that. Pie Guys is Sweet & just about perfect as far as I’m concerned. Im frustrated because you WANT to like this place. The food isn’t horrible. Yeah it’s pricey for the quality but it’s decent. The best thing about this place for me is the delivery drivers. They are always nice and on time and sometimes early. But I order from here often when I don’t want to cook or after a long day of work and don’t have the energy to make a meal. Here’s the thing, they’ve never forgotten any food I’ve ordered and never really mess up. But I noticed from time to time, their pizza is smaller delivered than advertised. If I order a large, why did I receive a medium? You didn’t think we’d measure after we opened the box and saw how small the pizza looked??? A large is 16 inches, I measure the pizza at 13 inches. That is smaller than a medium on top of that. I reached out but they claim there’s nothing they can do because they “sent out the correct size pizza”. You really try giving this place chance after chance especially after all of these bad reviews. It’s too bad. They used to be really great. I wish l would have read the reviews before ordering through Slice! I ordered at 7:01pm Oct 31. The driver then calls at 8:06pm and Rudely says you ordered!! On top of the rudeness gives me an incomplete order. I ordered #2 lg pizza w/10 chk wings and soda. Oh l forgot pizza! He says then hands me the chicken and soda! How you going to forget the pizza? SMH thens says l be back in 2 mins. It took longer than that. I then call the restaurant speak to a lady whos english was terrible. Then gives phone to man l quess he was owner.
