1st and LAST time at Highway 63 diner with the family! We live about 2 miles away. We had such high hopes for a nicer dinner tonight! With all the good reviews we decided to try it for an early fathers day meal as it was gonna be a few months till all 6 of us were together again. 137.00 for food that wasn't even mediocre! We had dried out ribs we couldn't chew, tasted like they were boiled, was told they were smoked- HA! I smoke ribs all the time. The worst ribs I ever turned out were totally amazing compared to the ribs we had tonight. I couldn't screw them up this bad if I tried. Broasted chicken was so salty it was hard to eat and luke warm at best. My daughter tried a breakfast pizza that had so much cheese it was difficult for her to eat. The sausage on it was not a breakfast sausage with weird seasoning. I told her to order something else if she would like, cause i agreed with her o. The taste of the pizza! She then ordered a cheeseburger that came with no cheese on it. One of my other daughters ordered a double cheese burger. Her sweet potato fries were soaked with grease and just not good. The hamburgers were amongst the worst we've ever tried. They had a weird, oily taste. My daughter took one bite and was like, nope that's terrible and she's not a complainer! It was so over cooked it was dry and hard. The best thing we had was home made salad dressings, but the salad tastes like a plastic bag. My loaded potato had so much mystery cheese sauce on it I had to scrape it off to find the potato. The potato was not fresh and tasted like it was a day old! I asked for more sour cream and it finally showed up when we were all done and ready to leave. By then I was done and ready for the bill and didn't want the rest of the cold potato. The server was really busy, but very nice, all things considered. My son had a steak with mushrooms on it. The menu says for the best taste, allow 15 to 20 minutes for the best taste. Not sure what that's about, but the mushrooms were nothing special and were as if they had sauced them lightly and barely touched the pan, still had the raw, out of the package taste to them. We were all very disappointed tonight and decided we won't patronize this place in the future. There are plenty of places to eat for a family of 6 for under 137.00! We decided not to try the desserts as they most likely reflected the quality of the food so we went elsewhere...

Took my family and I out for a nice dinner treat 🥰 since we've been on the road for 2 hrs leaving from Des Moines. This place wasn't super busy so no wait to be seated. And kid friendly, and plenty of High chairs, nice and quiet environment, my 1yr old son felt very loved and appreciated with such great service, and food choices lol boy did he have a feast. My fiance got a well seasoned rare steak sandwich which was Very tender and juicy. Got my son chicken legs, fries and veggies 😋 he also grabbed and stole sweet potatoes from his dad and my plate as well 🤣🤣🤣. For appetizers, I picked potato slices and fiance chose fried mushrooms . 🔊 did I mention the mushrooms were soooooo juicy ? Ohhh yeahhhh babes 🤣 so...... for my order, I had to get the strawberry slushy for my drink, and O.M.G 😲 😭 😩 whew (DELISHHHH) !!!!! LOL and water with lemon of course. Read moreFirst time here. I had the 2 breast broasted chicken dinner with "salad" (it was just some shredded lettuce.) Ordered with a side of corn casserole. Chicken was really good as was the corn casserole. Salad dressing is really tasty. Wife got the chicken pot pie. It was okay but needed more seasoning. It also was pretty heavy on potatoes. The gravy in it was a bit too thick. When making pot pie, it's usually better to make the gravy a little thinner because, when you bake the top layer on, it tends to thicken. The beef sub that the person in the next booth got looked really good. We look forward to returning on our next visit to Waterloo and trying some of the other menu items. Sidenote: it seems as though the prices were a bit higher than indicated on the website. One thing that irked me: My wife and I don't usually "split" an entree because we enjoy leftovers. But I noticed on the menu that there is an additional charge for splitting a meal. It wasn't a huge amount but I don't see the reason. Some people, especially elderly like to split their meal because they either feel there's too much food for one person or because they are being budget conscious. Why should they have to pay more for the same amount of food? I understand not allowing them to share a drink that has free refills. But the added charge seems...
