Today was our first visit to Troy's Sandwiches in Waterloo, Iowa. Our visit was long over due. Our daughter and her husband hvmave told us how good Troy's was. Other friends and co-workers had told us the same. Today I took the day off and we headed to Troy's for lunch. Wow! What an amazingly flavorful hand crafted sandwich they make. We had a Grande Papa and a Philly Cheese-steak sandwich and split them so we could each sample both sandwiches. My spouse had a side of the house-made pasta salad and I had the coleslaw. My spouse loved thr house-made pasta salad. The coleslaw was equally as good. The sandwiches were amazing. The sandwich bread is flavorful and perfectly buttered and toasted. The Grande Papa sandwich was full of flavor, many different flavors making it our favorite of the day. But that is not saying the Philly Cheese-steak sandwich is not amazing, it was. The steak is thinly sliced and extremely tender and well prepared. Again, both sandwiches were very well prepared. The waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive to our needs and the needs of others around us. The owner was present greeting all the customers and stopped by each table to ensure their food and experience was spot on. Upon leaving we ran into the owner again and he again asked if the food met our expectations, which answered "Yes, amazing sandwiches and sides". The owner shared they are working on adding and icecream parlor hopefully in around 6 months, expanding the dining area for Troy's Sandwiches, and adding a Steakhouse in about one year. This is exciting news for Waterloo, Iowa, and the Cedar Valley. This business is locally family owned and we encourage others to support them by stopping in for a sandwich, hamburger or other menu item. Can't wait to come back and try a burger and other sandwiches. We hear the Meatball sandwich is amazing!!!

This place gave me mixed feelings, and I wish I could give it 5 stars. This was our first time in, and they have a TV monitor menu over a cash register, (which kept going black) so we assumed we had to order our food here, and then go find a seat. We later learned this was for to go order and we were supposed to go past this area, but it wasn't obvious at the time, especially because there was a huge line of people blocking the seating host on the other side of the line. So that whole placement is a little confusing for first timers especially when it's busy. After getting seated the host was very very polite, and our waitress was amazing. From what I could tell, every staff member in the dining area was very professional and polite. (A+ service) There is plenty too choose from on the menu, although I believe it's a little pricey for what you actually get, in my opinion. I ordered the Troy Burger and house made pasta salad. It was very delicious. No complaints from anyone else at my table with their selections. (A+ food) As far as the atmosphere or vibe of the place; it's a smaller dining area, and very crowded. It wasn't extremely loud though, so your able to speak at a normal volume with the people at your table. Lastly, I'm not personally loving the hours of this restaurant. Monday through Friday, 10 am to 2 pm and closed Saturday and Sunday. I enjoyed this place enough to come back, but I won't be able to, because I, like so many are working during these hours. I was lucky enough this time to have a rare leave from work, and no, I'm not paying ridiculous prices for Uber eats or anything like that... I hope in the future the hours are adjusted or at the very least include Saturday or Sunday to be open. I'd easily change from 3 stars to 4 stars, with that alone.

I went to Troy's Sandwiches for the first time today and my experience was simply fantastic! Troy got me seated and got my drink even before my lovely server got to my table. My server, Matai, was wonderful. She was so friendly and helpful, checking back on me often to make sure I had everything I needed. For my first visit, I tried the pastrami sandwich and pasta salad. The pasta salad was amazing!! Light and flavorful with fresh veggies. My new favorite! The pastrami was excellent! The bread was absolutely delicious with that baked crispness and soft and warm on the inside. No burnt edges, just perfect! And the pastrami and cheese were warm and tasty. You can put mayo, mustard, or other sauces on it, but it's not needed. The pastrami and cheese are great all on its own. My serving, as you can see, is quite large and I could have easily taken 1/2 the sandwich home, but it was too good to stop eating. I was very impressed with everything. The atmosphere is clean and nice. The service is great! Everyone is so friendly. Troy stopped over to see how I was doing as well. I even had a nice conversation with some other customers to discuss our menu selections. I loved the food and my entire experience. I will definitely be coming back!!
