Ahh, Chulo! Thank you for serving us delicious food, time and again. This review is long overdue. Every time I decide to sit and write this review, I think of the food and I'm off to have it.
Food-wise, EVERYTHING we've tried has been a big hit. The royal khaja set comes with chicken choila and different veggies. Every single item is unique and has a distinct flavor (some can be spicy too). The only thing we probably didn't enjoy so much was the beaten rice. It can be slightly tough to chew. Through the khaja set, we discovered the badaam sadeko. It is a "salad" (quotes because it is not your typical salad with greens) with peanuts, so crunchy and the lime dressing is tangy and tasty. Now coming to the star of the show - the chicken momos! Oh wow - that chicken is seasoned well. The outer momo covering is paper thin which means it does not overpower the dish. You get two dipping sauces - both complement the momos. We've also tried the veggie momos. They're not supposed to be spicy but sometimes they can be - I believe they put minced chilies in the veggie mix. And finally a masala chai. It might not be on their menu but chai with those succulent momos is a good combination. Another app, aloo sadeko, while tasty is a cold app (the menu does not indicate it's cold). It was so cold that there was a small piece of ice in it. I do love the masala of the app, wish they served it hot or at least at room temperature.
The ambiance is always peaceful and relaxing including the artwork on the walls. Some nights they also have live music. The service is attentive and always with a smile. The food comes out quick. How does it get any better than this? :)
Chulo is on the second floor of a building and does not have a large board outside advertising its location. It may be a little hard to notice but it's definitely there! And you'll be...
Read moreI would like to give -ve stars/points if i can. One of worst restaurant i ever visited. I just saw the rating online and thought it is 4.5 so should be good so took my colleagues here for Weekday lunch. No customer were there, we were the only one, group of 5. Had to wait 5min for someone to come out from kitchen to be seated. Then for taking order, he came after 20min. we ordered malai kofta, naan, mango lassi, fried momos. Food came after 25 min from order. taste was so bad that literally felt like what we were eating, naan were frozen and sabji was no taste at all. Then thought of trying out dal so we were calling the guy to come out from kitchen and take our order but had to go literally in the kitchen n call him, then he was like " you should have ordered earlier as i am busy" - still ordered the dal and to no surprise dal was worst too. Overall nothing was good in this restaurant, Now I am checking the reviews and i see that only Non-indian people has given good rating and indian people has mentioned the reality as they know what indian/nepali food taste. Don't go in this restaurant and...
Read moreGreat Service from the moment we stepped in. It seemed they care for the food they serve and how they serve. The appetizers came out fast and although I was not entirely in a mood to order anything Indian I did end up getting the Daal Makhani. It pains me to see reddish Dal Makhani getting served which also has cream in it. I wish I can return just by looking at it that it's soooooo WRONG to put cream in it. 1.5 star taken out for otherwise tasty Nepali food.
The Kwati Soup was awesome and is a perfect comfort food to have esp when the weather is a bit chilly. The thali was great with all the items being tasty (the dal was what i thought will be served when I ordered dal makhani - maybe I got overly excited and then got disappointed.)
Ok I restore back half a star and make it a solid 4
There seems to be a stage for live performances and will definitely try to figure that out : The whats and the whens.
Will I make a trip to eat food? Nahhhh (maybe for the live music? Dunno)
Will I be back if am in the area? Always yes if am hungry...
