We (my fiance and I) recently visited NYAJ in Watertown for the first time, on June 25th, 2016, on our way to a concert in Boston, MA.
Since being diagnosed with Celiac disease, dining out has been a trying experience, so we do our best to try to prepare in advance by reviewing gluten-free dining options, in whatever area we plan to visit. We easily located their location and menu via a Google search and decided to give them a try; I'm glad we did, because it was hands down the best gluten free dining experience I've had since my diagnosis about 1 year ago.
NYAJ's gluten free menu is creative and expansive, offering many options (other than salad). Our waiter (Carlos) was just the right amount of friendly and attentive; I truly felt like he cared about our dining experience, and that the restaurant was attentive to my dietary needs and took them seriously. I was absolutely delighted when Carlos brought me a gluten free roll to enjoy with the dipping oil (I discovered later, at no additional charge), and it was the best piece of gluten free baked good that I've ever had. It was light and fluffy and didn't have the chewy consistency that most free items have (dense, similar to playdough).
I truly can't say enough about how wonderful our visit was. Often times, when you're ordering gluten free, you're made to feel like you're terribly inconveniencing wait staff; not only was the food delicious and the service exemplary, I was also made to feel at ease, that I wasn't a nuisance and felt reassured that I would be provided with a meal that met my needs and would allow me to enjoy a meal out, without the fear of being ill after.
It was just the best! So much so, that even though almost a month has passed, I felt compelled to share...
Read moreSeriously disappointed. I'm so tired of restaurants treating DoorDash customers like we don't matter as much as folks sitting in the restaurant. Almost $100 and y'all can't cut up the veggies and the meat. I get it DoorDash isn't great to the restaurants they work with but take it up with DoorDash not your customers.
I'm so tired of letting it slide because of how not okay DoorDash is to y'all. Come up with another delivery option then... Maybe one of your own so we're not upcharged for every single item.
How do I get no pineapples on sweet and sour chicken? It was a special order because I'm allergic to some things which is why I'm guessing they cut up the vegetables and chicken separate but they didn't even cut them.
If I wanted a meal that I spent half the effort on I could've had my PCA cook it. I'm a disabled person that needs a good meal every now and again and for this to happen multiple times now to one of the few times I can eat out is so angering.
It's sad because this is normally my favorite meal from y'all because your allergy friendly so I know what it's supposed to be like. So to have this happen multiple times is so disappointing. I love Not your average Joe's but it's starting to become average.
*Edited to add We gave it another go today my birthday and if it could've been worse it was. I'm so sad this is my favorite meal and my go to as a disabled person when I just don't have the...
Read moreWe went yesterday for Easter lunch and we all were disappointed at the food, and none of us ate the full portion. My fish and chips looked like chicken finger and it was blue inside. I couldn't finish it. The server asked me If I wanted a takeout box. I didn't want to be rude because it isht her fault the kitchen serves old food, but I really wanted to say " To take this cat food home? As the plate was seating In front of me, I asked my boyfriend's sister to swap seats with her because the fish smell was making me dizzy and being seated by the window was super hot. We all kept saying" I'm not impressed , food sucks" . Service was great. I left empty stomach and ate home. I wish food was as a great as the service. I'm not sure if I'll ever return because I'm from South Shore and it wouldn't be my first choice of restaurant. Can't speak for my boyfriend's family if they would give it another chance. They live just minutes away from this restaurant Secomd time at this location . I liked the food better...
