My friend and I are autistic adults who recently met at a networking group for autistic people. We met up at Cuppa Tosa to discuss the impact of how our hidden disability has affected us personally and professionally.
I apparently made a social gaffe while ordering our drinks. I thought I was being polite, considerate. However, I inadvertently offended the Barista, who proceeded to unkindly, and very sarcastically, call me out about it.
Being autistic, I thought the sarcasm was a corny joke, and I totally didn't get it. Neither did my friend. When the Barista brought out our order, they again lambasted me for my social gaffe, insinuating that I was being ableist.
I did not feel welcome on that day.
However, after posting this review, I called Vita, and we had a wonderful conversation on disabilities, both hidden and non hidden. We discussed the power of working through conflicts and restoring relationships.
She really wants customers to feel at home in her café. She cares deeply about her customers, and also her employees. She apologized on behalf of herself and the barista, who also regretted the interaction.
This heartfelt conversation has inspired me to live my values, which is to restore relationships after conflicts, not throw them away. That is what I do in my own family, and in my own home.
I will give this place a try again soon. Thanks, Vita. Your humility, vulnerability, and willingness to have a dialog, give me hope for the future of...
Read moreHoly moly. Yum!!! At first I didn't know what to expect because it was so small but WOW! Don't judge this place by it's capacity, it packs a punch! The drinks are SO creative, I felt instant fomo after reading the menu and I was already there ordering one. I walked in expecting to order a small caramel something and wanted to order the whole menu. It looked SO good! Something just told me everything would be good and I think my amazing barista read my mind because she presented me with options to customize my drink. I got a Butter Pecan latte with Caramel and it was so much better than I expected. The espresso was smooth, no bitter undernote, no overly-sweet syrup. I've stopped getting coffee drinks because the base will taste fine but then the milk will have this over boiled taste to it that turns me off and I've literally switched to my Keurig and creamer for my caffeine fix as a result. Not anymore! Thank you for earning my trust! This will be the only place I know to find good coffee and I'm so happy it's not in another state!! The barista also hooked me up with this avocado egg bite she made into a wrap when she heard I was on the go. The best part? Everything was so reasonably priced, I felt like I was back in 2015!
Saved to my favorite...
Read moreFirst time at Cuppa Tosa this morning. Noticed it driving passed the other day so wanted to try it out. Big coffee addict, and love trying new coffee shops. Walked and and was greeted by barista Madison and another woman (who I think may have been the owner but I’m not sure) Very friendly and welcoming. I offered a Coffee Au Lait with almond milk. Was happy they had milk alternatives, and their medium size coffee actually seemed large! Also ordered an egg and cheese breakfast croissant. Good size and delicious. I think the one thing I may recommend looking at their menu is maybe add a wrap/sandwich to the lunch items that’s vegetarian. All of them seemed to have meat in them. Otherwise the cafe was a nice vibe and I’m definitely going to be back for the great coffee and try some of their...
