It's a decent hotel/motel but the woman who runs it is not. I came with a relative who checked us into the hotel. I was supposed to stay a night, he was getting the room for me. I was in a room opposite the reception so it was quite discrete I thought. I like to be next to an exit door so I can go out to smoke. Anyway, first problem came when I was sitting on the ground smoking and charging my phone. The owner came out later to tell me not to sit there because I was "scaring people". I'm a tiny and petite young woman so I don't know how I am scary or intimidating at all. I ended up paying for an extra night myself. Cool, fine. Everything was cool I thought. The biggest problem arrived the next day. I had had my boyfriend and a couple friends come to my room throughout my stay. My boyfriend booked me a third night. So I wake up expecting to go from my room to a bigger room and the owner woman comes knocking on my door 5 minutes to checkout time telling me it's time to leave. I started getting out my phone to show her my confirmation email for staying another night and she says she saw it and rejected it and cancelled my boyfriends card transaction. I asked why, I wanted to stay another night and everything was paid for and setup. She claimed I had too many people coming to my room and didn't want me there. I told her my boyfriend and a couple friends had stopped by over the course of the 2 1/2 days I was there, I didn't think it was an issue as there is no rule against this and she didn't inform me of it when I first came. Had she asked for my friends/bf ID so she knew who was there they would have gladly showed her. She said nothing to me, not even mentioned it until the last minute when I was as getting ready to switch rooms to stay another night. Very rude and judgmental and had an attitude with me the entire time.
Also I used to be a former housekeeper so I know it always helps when people clean up the room for you. I took off all the sheets and bedding and put it in a pile and took all the trash and tied it up and put it on the counter in the trash bags so it was easy for the housekeeper to be in and out. I told the housekeeper this as I came back to triple check I didn't leave anything in the room because I thought I may had left something as the owner was rushing me out. The housekeeper didn't even say thank you, completely ignored me when I told her I had tidied up the room and took everything apart for her to make her job easier. Just ignored me. Ungrateful and rude.
Bottom line, decent hotel but there are much nicer hotels in the area for around the same price if not maybe a little more expensive but worth it. Don't go here if you wish to have company as she will give you the boot and make it seem like you had a a frat party in your...
Read moreWe were visiting friends in Wauwatosa and I was very surprised at how expensive hotels in the area were... I know it's close to Milwaukee but still! Plus I'm tired of finding the same chain hotels everywhere we go.||I found this place and I was a little worried because there was no online registration (that I saw) and that seemed a little odd. I called them and it only took a few minutes. She asked if I wanted a first or second floor room; it's nice to have the choice! Price was exactly as it said on the website, $98.50 for a king room on a weekend night; no hidden fees and it includes taxes. ||Parking was right in front at no extra cost. The room was spacious and very clean. Both the room and the bathroom had windows that opened into a court so no loud noises. The bed was very comfortable and huge! The bathroom had everything we needed and the water pressure was great (you never know in older hotels!) There was a bar of soap and plenty of towels but I don't think there were other toiletries. There was a welcome binder that explained that, in order to keep the cost down, they opted to not offer so many complimentary toiletries and no continental breakfast. I completely agree with that! They do sell some toiletries at the reception desk if you need them.||They had coffee and pound cake in a variety of flavors in the morning (chocolate, banana nut, cinnamon swirl, etc.), starting at 7, I think. It's a nice cozy area with tables and chairs but there are cups to go and the pound cake slices are individually wrapped so you can take it with you if you're in a hurry.||I'm happy I found this place and we'll definitely go back when we visit our friends in the area. Even if we visit Milwaukee, it's so close that we might just stay here. It's a very short drive to the downtown area, about 12 min. to the Public Market on a Sunday.||The receptionist/owner was very nice and helpful and she didn't mind answering questions that I'm sure she's been asked many times! And when was the last time you had an actual key to open a hotel door? I recommend...
Read moreLocated on a main thoroughfare Forty Winks Inn is a clean, quiet and uniquely styled lodging located in the suburb of Wauwatosa on the outskirts of Milwaukee. It is listed as a 2 star hotel which is appropriate. The lodging and rooms have a somewhat dated feel, and there are no food services or sundries per se (you can get shamppoo/conditioner if you ask), but everything was exceptionaly clean, the room was large, the bed comfortable and though the bathroom was quite small, it served it's purpose. Room included a microwave, refrigerator and and 32inch TV with a decent number of channels. All rooms are in a single, window lined hallway facing the parking lot/street. Rooms and building entry are accessible with a tradtional key. The room rates were reasonable in my opinion. As a side note, there weren't any restaurants within a short distance if that is important to you. I stayed here after reading most of these reviews; I was not disappointed. Most important was a clean room and comfortable bed, both of which fit...
