This is the typical hole-in-the-wall local hang out with great food so do not expect 5 star accommodations. However, the Duck far exceeds your typical bar food. It was great to have a place where you could eat and listen to a live band. The staff did a great job making sure we were taken care of and kept the food and drinks flowing. We can't complain about the amount of food or drink you get for the price. I was not expecting much from the outside but when have you ever found a dive bar with Duck Bacon Wontons? 5+ stars on the wontons by the way!
On the bad side though, it was somewhat disappointing to have such good quality food and a unique place with menu choices were somewhat lackluster. I travel a lot for work and I have eaten all over at diners all over the US. This place is so close to going next level if they could develop their menu just a bit more. There were some great and unique choices like the duck strips, duck bacon wontons and everyone raved about the Cajun alfredo. After that, the uniqueness of the menu kind of went flat. Best fried pickles I have ever had though!
With that being said, everything we had was excellent and very good quality. I had the Prime Rib Stacker and my wife had a HUGE burger that was very good. I would definitely go back and recommend you check it out. It is unique to Sioux Falls. With a town so full of chain diners and restaurants where all the food taste the same, the Duck is a good find. I love finding spots where my hard earned money supports the locals. Keep up...
Read moreThirsty Duck has great food and our first two trips there were a great experience. On our last visit this week, however, the situation was different. We had great food but the bar policy for happy hour was wrong and the waitress was blunt and rude regarding the policy. We arrived at the Thirsty Duck at 5:40. Our server finally came to our table at 5:45, not that long but considering the small crowd, kind of slow. We soon learnd why. Happy hour at the Thirsty Duck goes until 6:00. BAR TIME, not real time. So by waiting until 5:45 (6:00 BAR TIME) they did not allow us the happy hour price. This is redicoulous, what other bar runs bar specials on BAR TIMEand not real time. Not one that I know of. Anyway, this is not good customer relations and therefore we are done with the Thirsty Duck. There are many other bars that have good food and do not screw you on...
