Unforgettably awful food and subsequent experience. One for the record books! I have eaten sushi for more than 40 years all across this country. From New York, Brooklyn, California, Georgia, Texas and Tenessee. In all my years of eating sushi this was the worst sushi I have ever been served and the worst restaurant experience I have ever had.
I came on the recommendation of a local who thinks very highly of this place. I was extraordinarily disappointed. We had two appetizers, one of which was brought after our entrees, but not a big deal. The appetizers were fine, shrimp gyoza and vegetable tempura. We had not eaten all day it was now probably six oâclock. In addition to our appetizers we had ordered two regular rolls and two special rolls. I had a half bite of one of the special rolls and found it to be inedible. So I moved on to a piece of a regular roll. I popped it in my mouth and figured out what the problem was. The rice was over cooked. And the yellow tail had not been kept as cool as it needed to be resulting in mushy fish rather than the chilled firm and buttery texture that I am used to being served. I have eaten sushi on average a minimum of two times a month and quite often eight times a month. 200 times a year for more than 40 years. I have never in my life been served such substandard and distasteful sushi. My dining companion was also able to eat only one and a half bites.
Needless to say we described our impressions to our server and returned the sushi to the kitchen. We decided against ordering something else and asked for our check. To our dismay and astonishment the check included the four rolls of sushi totaling for two appetizers eaten more than sixty dollars. We told our server that this was not right, she had possibly the proprietor come to the table to discuss this with us. We explained the situation and how the sushi did not meet our expectations pointing out that the overcooking of rice had created quite a pasty sensation in our mouths. She explained to us that indeed she is aware that the rice is overcooked and that their customers prefer this.
I explained that I was very happy that she runs a restaurant that is pleasing to her regular customers, but that I found the sushi did not meet our expectations we found it inedible and did not expect to pay for food that had been returned to the kitchen. That I have never experienced or heard of a restaurant charging customers for food that was returned uneaten. Four police people and twenty minutes more she at last presented us with the bill for two appetizers. Four police people responded to her belief that customers should pay for food that was in virtually its entirety sent back to the kitchen! I have never been so incensed at being treated so horrifically by an establishment that I patronized. This will be the most memorable restaurant...
Read moreIâve eaten here plenty of times and the food is what youâd expect from a Japanese steakhouse. The issue I have is that my daughters were on the wait staff, and became aware after months of suspicion that the owners were talking about them in a negative way in their native language. After using Google translate to see what was being said, they left their jobs at Fuji. They now work at another popular restaurant in town, where they make more money and are treated like family. Their criticism was unfounded, cruel and unnecessary. My teenage children didnât deserve to be treated with a lack of dignity by the owner and her family. Iâll never eat there again. Apparently they talk about all their staff in a negative way, assuming that people who donât speak their language wonât know. Who wants to tell them how simple it is to translate now? It was a toxic atmosphere behind the scenes. If you like your sushi with a side of bullying, this is the...
Read moreI had driven by several times but never stopped. Maybe I thought a small town in Georgia wouldnât have a good Japanese restaurant. I was wrong. Once I finally stopped in I was pleasantly surprised, the dining area was very clean and the people were attentive and polite. I had tempura vegetables for an appetizer and they were cooked perfectly and were delicious. I had a tempura fried shrimp roll and a Godzilla roll for entree. Both were great. Great flavor, the wasabi wasnât make you cry hot and had a wonderful flavor. Presentation was pleasing and all in all it was a great dining experience. Prices were reasonable, $15 for the Godzilla roll, $8 for the tempura fried shrimp roll. Little Waynesboro does have a very good Japanese Restaurant and...
