We were on the road to Colorado from Houston and tasked my husband with finding us a Goldilocks place for lunch - somewhere that was juuuuuust right. He did good! The R&K Cafe II exceeded our expectations and was the PERFECT Texas road trip / country lunch. We got all googly-eyed right after walking in the door because of the pies on display in a rotating glass case, all lit up like diamond rings are in a jewelry shop and making you want them more than you care to admit. Googly eyes continued as we saw plates coming out to fellow diners - the portions were giant! Two of us had the meatloaf on the daily special menu and it was spectacular, with a soft, rich and moist texture, not at all like that meatloaf in cafeterias that has a future life as a brick. The daily special comes with 3 sides! My husband asked about the onion rings when ordering his club sandwich and they sounded so good that we both substituted them for one of our sides (for a small upcharge). I mean, hand-battered onion rings beat mashed potatoes every time, right? The grilled squash, another side, had really nice texture, and the green beans tasted like they'd been slow-stewed with some lovely ham hocks. The lunch special came with dessert, an exact replica of that chocolate sheet cake with a little cinnamon in it that always showed up at the Friday night covered dish supper at the Methodist church when I was growing up. To put it mildly, we were delighted with our lunch choice, and the staff were as friendly and welcoming as the food was wonderful. Don't be surprised if you have to wait a few minutes for a seat, though - this place is popular! It's worth the wait, my friends! Sadly, no photos, as we dug into our food...
Read moreAfter ordering take out I was disappointed to get my food home and find out my burger had been put on bread, due to them being out of buns ( I was not informed of this) also received chips when usually I get fries and maybe it was wrong foe me to assume that a basket came with fries, when I called to find out if maybe I had thought wrong the first man to answer the phone wasn't dealing with my questions and immediately passed the phone to a woman who seemed to be overwhelmed by my questions and informed me they don't have burger baskets they have plates and that normally the burger would come on a bun but they had ran out, which was fine but me, just thought I shoould have been made aware of this when I ordered, so I asked, does a plate come standard with chips and not fries, she said " no you have an option on fries or chips I then tell her I was not offered a choice. She then got frustrated and asked me did I want to place a to go order or what? I informed her I had just spent money there and wasn't trying to place an order just had a question . She immediately passed me to a manager. I informed him of my situation and could tell he was busy, so didn't waists any time other then explaining to him that I only had questions on the menu and had been treated like an innocence. I get being busy, but dang! Food is always great, just couldn't beilive the attitude over a menu question . And the fact that I got passed on the phone three times because people are too frustrated to answer a questions blew my mind.. I wasn't even complaining, truly wanted to know for future purchases. I think I will take my business to Wandas, the food and prices are just as good and the attitude...
Read moreI usually go here w/family & get good service & the price isn’t overwhelming. However, today’s reception by the cashier left a horrible feeling, so we definitely won’t be going back.
My sister & I went to pay. I paid for 2 meals & a coffee. My sister paid the rest. However, we thought it was odd it was still $50. The cashier immediately remarked you got a lot of food. Also made it sound like we had ordered extra sides, but I found out that wasn’t the case. We went outside since there was a line to pay out. Based on my math, it was abt $10 more than it should have been.
I went back inside, and clearly told the cashier, I have a question abt the total. She ends up calling over the waitress saying I was disputing the food & drink we received. I could never get her to show me how her totals came to $50 for the second ticket. She got ugly w/the waitress & myself, saying we didn’t charge you for all the drinks. I said I understand that, we had 2 teas which were part of lunch special, did that change? She said no, but you only paid for 1 Sprite. I said there was only 1 Sprite, the rest of drinks were water. I paid for my lunch & my mother’s meal along w/her coffee. But how did the rest come to $50? She gave the ticket to the waitress & said you figure it out.
We both looked at the ticket & found HER mistake. She charged $7.99 each for 3 breakfast meals which were clearly marked on the ticket as $4.99 X 3. When the waitresss tried to show her, she got ugly, threw $50 at her & said I’m done, I don’t want to hear abt it anymore, I’m done arguing, just give her the money back.
There was no need for this reaction. If she actually listened, it would have been resolved...
