Not the place for Texas steak. Did my research for nearby steak while traveling. Rated pretty good for steak and BBQ. Supper on a Wednesday night 730. Waitress was good/friendly, but over worked. Could have been more attentive but when larger tables came in after our 2 top she directed more attention to them than us. Typical. Don’t ever underestimate the tip factor. ¾ inch Ribeye Medium was bottom end Medium rare. Asked for rib end and most aged cut in house if available. Got mid-section, no fat cap (over trimmed or lesser grade animal--probably later). Inner fat vein sparse between rib eye cap and petite ribeye. Parts of steak tender, other very tough and sinewy especially around untrimmed tail. Some of meat had very livery mineral taste. This means the animal may have been stressed or not bled properly at slaughter. Overall flavor not best, grain lot finished definitely not grass fed. Grilled vege skews looked nice but were basically raw. Probably on grill for less than 5 minutes low side no seasoning. House salad on its last legs of freshness and couple soft grape tomatoes were a bit gross. Blue cheese from jug, no house made here. Second entrée of salmon said to have been very tasty and grilled adequately. Got an overload of bread as waitress just kept shoveling baskets out with other orders and gave no thought to our table needs. Drinks not refilled timely as later larger tables taken care of first. She even had help and I had to ask manager/helper for service once they were finished with others service. They had to pass our table, saw tea glasses on edge as sign of need and by passed us nether-the-less. Very rushed traffic from after when we came in, but nothing seemed attended to at our table. When dropped off check, not told needed to pay up front, so waited a while until we flagged her down and she told us otherwise. By 830 they were turning people away that wanted to come in. Don’t get it. Disappointed, was hoping to get good Texas beef like I had grown up on but this I’m sure came from the Midwest. Nothing special or really enjoyable. Had better at Texas Roadhouse and Logan’s for about same price. Service and food here rates...

Homemade rolls and cornbread were delicious
Allll smoked meats were delicious
They have CHICKEN FRIED BACON need I say more?
Prices VERY reasonable. 3 smoked meat combo platter only 19.99 and the portions are generous! I got the smoked sausage, sliced brisket and ribs. My beau got brisket X’s 2 and smoked sausage. He got potato salad and fried okra for his sides. I got potato salad and coleslaw.
My coleslaw was amazing and very fresh. They had just made it. I’m a huge stickler for delicious coleslaw with my bbq and it really hit it home for me.
Gosh there’s so much to mention. Oh, I added on 2 bacon wrapped shrimp for 4.99 and OH MY GAWSH. Definitely do that.
They had delicious brewed sweet PEACH tea too which I personally loved.
My only cons are they have these beautiful homemade cornbread muffins and homemade dinner rolls and they serve them with “spread” or margarine. I do not eat margarine or any butter substitutes so that was kind of a big disappointment but I would still go back. The other thing is that I hated the BBQ sauce. They only had one kind. I just think that’s crazy for a place like this to only have one kind. It tasted like it had a lot of cumin in it and it was more like steak sauce than bbq. I just wish they would’ve had a more traditional bbq like say…MESQUITE? Lol since their name is Mesquite Pit?? One more down side is they didn’t have turkey or chicken as a choice for smoked meat.
Oh! Can’t forget our server! She was amazing. We sat at the bar and she was a great server. Hustler to be exact. She made us feel very welcome and very well taken care of. She was really pleasant and very attentive.
I would definitely stop here if you have the chance. Me and my beau are truck drivers and we bobtailed one of our over there from the TA bc a cab would’ve cost $30 round trip to go 3 miles and there were no Ubers or lyfts.
Great experience all and all and if we get the chance we will absolutely show up there again. Very very nice place! Great service, great food, great atmosphere...
Read moreYou have to visit this place. Every time I drove by it looked busy, but when we actually went, although the parking lot was completely full there was plenty of seating. The hostess was nice and set us at the table right away. The tables are the picnic style looking tables with the red and white checkers. Pretty cool.
We started out with an appetizer: sampler platter, choose three of the menu items. We chose the onion rings, which were beer-battered and flaky, incredible! The breaded mushrooms were perfect, and the fried pickles we're just the right amount of sour.
Next we had dinner salads. They were just big enough and nothing fancy, but they were good.
Because we had to try it, we decided to get a second appetizer, but really it was one of the entrees. It was the smoked meat combo. On that combo where the pork ribs, brisket, and smoked sausage. All of it was moist and did not require barbecue sauce, although we decided to use the different kinds of barbecue sauce that were available.
I always order a rib-eye charred medium rare. I loved the spices on this one, almost a rub. The chef cooked it just right. And, there was a lot of marble fat on it, which I love. That's why I always get the ribeye.
The chicken with seasoned well and was also moist. Sometimes chicken can be dry at places like this. I am pleased to say that it was just right.
You can't go wrong with any of the sides. The asparagus was crispy, the baked beans were not too sweet, the coleslaw was fresh and crispy. And of course my favorite overall were the cheese grits, which were incredible. I spent a lot of time in the South growing up and I'm no good cheese grits when I taste them. These were pretty awesome. You have to try them.
Overall it was a great experience. I have seen this place as I drive by it frequently. I wanted to go for a long time but never was able to fit it into my schedule. I'm glad I did. I...
