My husband and I went to check out the new restaurant in West Bend called The Norbert. Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Main Street, The Norbert presents itself as a casual, progressive small plate dining experience. From the outside it looks like a low-key small front, but as soon as you walk in the door you are greeted with a warm and elegant dining space. The ceiling is adorned with chandeliers and mirrors help to open up the space. Pieces of eclectic art are positioned around the room adding to the diversity of this little gem. We were seated and offered menus that showcased a variety of choices for all different tastes. We took part in their Saturday Night Supper Club offering beef wellington. We also took advantage of their extensive craft beer offerings. I had a blackberry pear cider, while my husband had a milk stout. Both were excellent and we decided we may just come in some time to sample the other flavors. Now when most people see "small plate" they may think they will walk away unsatisfied and still hungry, this is not the case with The Norbert. Our beef wellingtons were accompanied with a spinach salad lightly drizzled with hot bacon dressing and topped with dried cranberries. It was savory and sweet and claimed the corner of the plate. The beef was done perfectly, medium rare wrapped in a piece of bacon surrounded by thinly sliced mushrooms and then encased in a pastry that was flaky golden brown. We certainly were not left wanting. I was quite impressed that it was seasoned well and needed no additional salt or pepper. In fact, as I looked around the restaurant no one had touched their salt and pepper shakers. Most of them served as decorations for the customers instead of a needed accompaniment. Other offerings on the menu were Thai turkey sliders, garnished with water chestnuts and carrot. Mussels in a wine and garlic sauce (which tickled your nose with garlic delightfully as it walked past), Coconut shrimp with jasmine rice, tuna tar tar with a wasabi vinaigrette. I was hesitant to try The Norbert at first, but I was definitely a fan when we walked out the door. I look forward to trying more of the creative offerings and recommending others to try it out! I feel optimistic about The Norbert's future as a successful restaurant offering West Bend far more choices then...
Read moreIt has been awhile since I dined at the Norbert, but it is still as perfect as the last time. The atmosphere is so quaint and relaxing yet buzzing with staff. I love that you can see the kitchen preparing dishes and the whole place is flowing with delightful smells.
We had a beautiful heirloom tomato salad with fresh buffalo mozzarella, juicy peaches, aromatic basil leaves drizzled with balsamic reduction. Smooth and so refreshing.
Our favorite dish by far was the fried chicken. The homemade ranch was out of this world and the sauce on the chicken had so many layers of flavor. Paired with their pickled cucumbers, perfect!
We also tried the pear and brie flatbread as well as the shrimp pasta! Just really well executed.
Ended with the bread pudding. It'll make you slap your momma, lol!
The owner is present and very attentive. I appreciate a well-run small business that does not waiver on quality and patronage. Hats off to you. Ty....
Read moreI have been to The Norbert many times in the past and their food and atmosphere are amazing. Tonight my review is of their wonderful service! Being a Friday night between two holidays, the restaurant was busy tomight. We made a reservation, but it was made this eveningand for a group of 8. Our table wasn't ready yet as there was a group of women enjoying their time together. We waited some time and eventually ended up leaving, not in frustration, but because we were with a group of friends catching up and figured we would one day be the group holding up a table. The staff were so kind to give a gift card for waiting so long (actually ran it to our new location). We would have returned based off of their amazing food and service, but now will definitely be returning based off of the generous customer service they provided tonight. Good to know some businesses with morals still exist. Definitely pay...
