La Catedral Cafe - North Lawndale — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

The food was delicious, our server was very friendly however I'm giving it a 1 star due to the lady and man that were at the front. She had an attitude the minute we got there, we had checked in online and cancelled when we got the notification by accident, we were on our way so we checked in again (open table). Upon arrival I provided my name and she said my check in had been cancelled, I tried to explain to her it was my mistake and the second check in had gone through and I had the text to prove it, she had a very nasty attitude that if that's the 1st encounter you get upon arrival it is not pleasant. Ok she ended giving us a table, asked if high tables were ok and we agreed. We finished our breakfast, my daughter was finishing up her iced coffee when a guy comes up and says we have to leave as they have a 1 hr. grace period and there were other people waiting, we had been there for about an hr or less. First of all I was there a few weeks ago when the Carrera de los Muertos took place and we waited over 2 hours for a table when they said 45 min wait, that day the place was packed and a lot more people waiting than yesterday and at no time were we given a time frame to finish up and leave. I find it very disrespectful the way we were treated by the lady at check in and the guy who told us to leave. Now our waiter once again, he was a sweetheart, he even apologized after he gave us our check and said take your time, I was like well we need to leave since we were told to do so. Went early morning 8am after my girlfriends 12 hour shift at the hospital on a Tuesday & we ordered chilaquiles verdes one with cesina and the other with carne de tacos. My girlfriend ordered them without cebolla and without jitomate rojo and the plate came back with all of that in it, we told the server and the server said that ALL frijoles came with jitomate and that the other chilaquiles had cebolla but mine didn’t have ANY .. which I think that wasn’t the case and they mixed by plate or they just didn’t want to redo the plate … we would’ve switched but we had different meats and our eggs were different which the server didn’t ask either how we wanted our eggs ... All aside we tried to forget about it and I gave my gf some of my carne and then we asked for the check and server said she would be back with it and 30 min later there was still no check so we asked a different server who passed by and he kindly brought it back quick and when we went up to pay the server who was going to bring us our check was sitting down having a full conversation with another employee. When we arrived and left there was only 3 other couples or family’s there and we expected a little more of a better service. First time here this past weekend, took a friend for her birthday. Food and coffee was amazing the lava cake was also good. I was not told tip is included which may explain the terrible service, the hostess never said anything. I asked her for the birthday cake/singing you guys have ( as I seen it happen while waiting for our coffee) and she told me she would let the server know and it would come after our plates are taken away , before the check. We finished our food, our plates were taken, and the check was given to me. The server, Kevin ( the name written in the receipt) said we can pay in front, it resulted that he forgot about the cake , despite it showing in the receipt. I had to go ask the workers in the coffee area hiw it works because it didnt happen how the hostess said. He overheard and said nothing and i guess he reached out to the kitchen staff for the cake. I went to the bathroom and saw him standing by the register. Despite seeing me walk away he proceeded to get the cake and sing happy birthday to my friend as she sat ALONE. Everyone who knew and saw us sitting together looked just as mortified as I did. When I told her why they didn't wait , the hostess said " oh I dont know" and walked away to seat other people ( SHE WAS ALSO SINGING BTW).
