Taquerías Atotonilco in Little Village offers a chill atmosphere with a touch of traditional Mexican flair. From the moment you walk in, the delicious aroma of cooking food fills the air, instantly transporting you to Mexico. The music and ambient sounds of food being prepared add to the authentic vibe, making it a delightful sensory experience. As soon as I walked in, I was hit with that amazing smell of food being cooked the kind that makes your stomach start doing a happy dance. It was like being transported straight to a vibrant market in Mexico. I was craving tacos de barbacoa like a long-lost love, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. When the tacos arrived, I knew I was in for a treat. They were generously packed with tender, succulent barbacoa. I took my first bite and oh boy, it was like a party in my mouth. The meat was so tender, it felt like it was giving my taste buds a gentle hug. And that salsa! Just the right amount of kick, with a hint of lime that brought everything together in a perfect dance of flavors. I swear, my mouth was doing the salsa and merengue at the same time. I have to mention the tortillas too. They were fresh and warm, with that slight chewiness that tells you they’ve been made with love. Each bite was a reminder of why I love Mexican food so much. I’m already plotting my return to Taquerías Atotonilco to explore the rest of their menu. If you’re in Little Village and in the mood for some amazing Mexican food, do yourself a favor and check this place out. Your taste buds...
Read moreMy daughter and I were leaving Chicago for our drive home (2hrs) a little later than expected (ok a lot later) and decided to grab something to eat before getting on 55. Looking for anything open at this hour and on a Observed Holiday we found this place. So we decided for 2 tacos carne asada and 1 carne asada torta (ya i know, carne asada the go too) but they do carry a variety of different items although for me coming from Central Illinois, Chicago process are a bit more (big city life). Also, what i thought was cool is they have a machine with oranges for fresh orange juice. Ok I know let's move on! So when you enter the order station is right inside the door. We took ours to go because of time but they do offer sit-down service. They have a good space with adequate seating and not so pushed together A PLUS. Well we waited we noticed how busy the cooks were on the flat grills but they never missed a beat. Food was flying out and i can say after trying it, i can understand why. The food had good taste and the salsa was really good and for those who know me SALSA is my thing (been making/giving/selling for years). So as far as restrooms, I'm sure they have them but we didn't check them out. So unfortunately, I'm not sure about it being handicap accessible. So if you have time or are in the area, i suggest stopping in and giving it a try. Remember, it's a taqueria not fine dining but i know you'll enjoy. #TaqueriasAtotonilco...
Read moreMy friends and I stopped by on a Saturday evening, and it was pretty packed, though we were luckily able to get seated immediately. Once seated, we got some complimentary carrots and peppers, which had a pleasant sour / pickled flavor.
They have a decent amount of vegetarian options, but none are very inventive (just avocado or beans, that’s it). All the meat options looked pretty good— they have an open kitchen, so you can see all the meats being cut and cooked on the grill at the front of the restaurant, which is cool.
I ordered the Birria Torta, which was solid. The bread was simultaneously soft and crispy— a good texture combo, and the meat was good— albeit slightly dry and lacking in flavor. It had a generous amount of sauce / sour cream inside, which improved the flavor profile. Being so packed with meat, it was pretty hard to consume in one piece without completely falling apart in my hands. Otherwise, it was overall pretty good and for ~$12 including tip, it was solid value.
I thought the prices were standard and reasonable (though maybe a bit on the higher side for certain menu items) relative to other Mexican restaurants in the area. Our waitstaff was friendly and the food came out quickly. You pay at the front, and though they take both cash and card, they add a 3.5% surcharge for cards. —
