Taquizas Don Rafa — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

First time visiting this place because it was recommended to me through Facebook. I went for the Mexican Buffet that was being offered, I was told ahead of time that a group of 5 people will have 15% tip automatically charged on the total cost. So the bill was $110.

The service was very poor, we had to repeatedly ask the waitress to pick up the dirty plates. They claimed they didn’t have enough people waiting the tables, however three other waitresses were just standing and gossiping with each other. There was 8 dirty plates on our table and yet nobody picked them up, you’d think when you are charged $14 tip, then the service would be good. It was definitely not good at all, the cups were not picked up either.

Also, there isn’t enough non spicy options, so my niece (who is 5yrs old) wasn’t able to eat anything besides bland rice and salty beans. There isn’t much variety for food, only spicy and not many people eat that.

We had to ask four times to get more tortillas, a waitress was having an attitude and instead of bring tortillas she just told another waitress to take our order. Like what? Again, 15% tip was charged and I expected bettter service and got nothing but attitude from them.

This was the absolute worst restaurant I’ve ever been to and I truly wish people on Facebook/tiktok can stop recommending this place because there nothing good.

My word of advice, anytime a restaurant or buffet is recommended always check the low star reviews because it’s more honest than the high...

Took my mom for mothers day as she saw a video and wanted to try it. We went and I paid cash for the buffet, I was shortchanged but didn't say anything since I didn't want to ruin anything for my mom. We go to the buffet, the food looked promising. There was salsa Verde, rojo and mole. We scooped for the meats in the salsas, it's basically all salsa. The little meat there is, it's 90% bone. There's no beans (the pan was empty) and the rice did not taste like anything. We ordered sopes, the orders came wrong and the waitress looked annoyed when asked to fix it. When the correct order was given, there was barely any meat and even that was bland (pastor and asada). The horchata was watered down, and the desserts were depressing. My mom was excited for arroz con leche as they told her they will bring it out for it to never come out the 2 hrs we were there. There was tamales and I was so excited to try it since it's my favorite, dry and hard as a brick.
