Have been here numerous times but we visited on 2/21/2024, and were sorely disappointed. The Lobster Bisque was nothing more than a runny liquid of lukewarm water with flavor paste for $7.50, and we had to ask for crackers. It was so bad it wasn't edible even with the crackers. The Fish and Chips were ok, but given the $19.50 price tag, one slim filet and hardly any fries, it definitely isn't worth it. Even the soda was flat. On the bright side, the waiter Brett was outstanding in his efforts to welcome us, replacing the soda after changing out the CO2 cartridge, and taking the inedible soup off the bill. The Irish Pudding currently on special in the Jameson Whiskey reduction was out of this world. The ambiance and location is charming and in warmer weather quite beautiful given their outdoor seating. Service has also always been top notch. Wish we could say the same about the food, or at least their prices vis a vis the portion/quality.

I have long loved the very appropriately named Hideaway across decades as a resident of Mount Gretna. The food selection is varied and generally very good. The portions are more than ample and can be easily shared. the service is always friendly. They're beautiful outdoor eating space is certainly among its greatest assets. And we love to stop here frequently. There are only two modest negatives. First is that the food is sometimes a little heavy handed. For example, hideaway fries are mostly hideaway with lots of stuff on top of a smallish pile of fries that are not always crispy by the time you get to them, and if you don't want bacon, you'll have to ask them to hold it. Their second drawback is easy to resolve. It is their eco-UNfriendly Styrofoam take out containers. Here in our lovely community that respects the environment, this is the kind of thing that could easily be much better done. Alan, are you listening?

Our food was excellent! We started with nachos and a side of chile. The lettuce could have been shredded a bit more but the plate was more than enough to four adults. My brisket melt was moist and tasty. My wife had brisket tacos and she said they were delicious. The caprese flatbread and French onion crick were also a hit in our party. Our previous visits to the Hideaway were during outdoor weather. Our first time indoors was a bit of a disappointment. When we looked at the GM reviews and images we were wondering why there weren’t many photos of the indoor seating areas. We quickly realized the interior was rather dingy and in need of a major update. Overall I’d still recommend this place but the outdoor dining experience is much better than indoors.

I have previously liked to go here for the Filet Mignon. My last steak here was ordered medium. There was no pink color inside the meat, and the meat was so tough I had great difficulty in cutting it with a large steak knife. I do NOT like sending meat back to kitchens/cooks. Yet the waitress agreed the steak was not cooked "medium," and offered to kindly have the cook make another steak. She also volunteered that if I was not happy with the second steak that the Manager had been present in the kitchen when the waitress spoke to the cook re: the first steak, and that the meal would be removed from my final bill. The second steak was as poorly made, if not worse, than the first, and the meat was equally difficult to cut through. The waitress apologized. Yet when the bill came, only half the meal was removed, because I had consumed the salad and side dishes while the steaks were being made and re cooked. I explained to the waitress that I was so hungry I ate what she left when she took the steak. She stated that the Manager would only remove a prorated amount from my bill because I ate some of the food brought out. I wanted to continue to address this with the Manager. However, I was accompanied by a friend who was paying and wished to just pay and leave. I will NOT return...which is very...

This is not a restaurant that you would drive by unless you find it by mistake. This is a destination location.. Thus HIDEAWAY!.. We called ahead and ask for reservations and she said it was over an hour for seating inside. They also offer a huge outdoor muti level deck with a bar. It's cute but not. the 2x4 wood deck painted brown looks old. It doesn't look or feel cozy. After an hour wait, no reservation for deck, we were seated way way way in the back. No big deal this is a huge deck. In 10 minutes the server come and we ready to order. We order drinks and our food. Prices seem reasonable. $7 for a bowl of seafood bisque, very good. They have seafood trio , crabcake , shrimp, and scallops. very small portion. but very good. Our salad was served 10 minutes after the entree. The was more of an absentee server. I had to go look for him to get the bill. I like this place but don't love it. I live in Lancaster PA and for a 45 minutes ride from Lancaster, which you know is not east, not worth the trip. I was told what a wonderful place but not for me. cet endroit...

The Mt. Gretna Hideaway has a wonderful outdoor atmosphere. They have done an excellent job with the deck, bar area and plants to create a pretty setting in the shade.

The service today was a drastic negative however and was probably the worst service our party of 7 has received that any of us could recall. When my high schooler noticed how bad it is you know there is improvement needed. Everything from the hostess to the waitress left something to be desired. No personality, didn’t smile, we had to ask multiple times for water, refills on drinks (which we never received), drink menu (which we also never received because by the time she came back we were finished eating), ketchup (which I got up and got from the bar myself) and napkins. The appetizer was delivered and no side plates were provided. She never he led on us or came even close to the table so we could ask for some since people were sharing the wings. Everyone working there looked completely miserable. The food also left something to be desired. While the wings were really good everything else was...
