Taqueria Mexicana — Restaurant in West Haven

Based off of the reviews, I was excited to try this place but ended up being disappointed. (I did order from DoorDash so I’m not sure if that plays a part in my review) I got the steak quesadilla and it was good but literally came with no sauce, sour cream, guacamole, NOTHING. Not even a little side salad. I had to add my own salsa which took away from the authentic flavor. I also ordered the birria tacos and was disappointed. The whole meal was bland. No cheese and the meat was dry. The consumé, beans, rice, and tacos were all flavorless, I had to add salt to everything. The only good thing about this place was that my food arrived hot. $30 wasted and I probably Will not order again. Small local Mexican restaurant. Kind of dark and dingy. Imagine a living room in an apartment building with a full bar and 3 tables. The kitchen is separated from dining area by an old beaded curtain. Kitchen is loud with the cooks and workers speaking loudly in Spanish. Best is you order the food and either pick up or get it delivered. Food is ok..not Taco Bell but also not Puerto Vallarta quality. I particularly did not care for the beef (steak?) quesadilla. It came in 4 small triangle tortillas with a lot of cheese but maybe 2 small pieces of beef in each. For 9 bucks I expected more. The tacos were more filled up and tastier. I almost never give out 5 stars for restaurants and this low-key Mexican spot is possibly one of my favorite Mexican food restaurants. I'm crazy for latin food and they hit the spot. Their portions are really yummy. And they have some of the best tacos I've ever had. It's like your eating street tacos in mexico. The flavors are so rich. And good lord possibly the best margaritas I've ever had! If you love margaritas you gotta come try them here ! And their food travels great for take out as well !!! Can't wait to be back.
