744 West — Restaurant in West Haven

I’ve been to this establishment in the past a few months ago and it was just alright nothing to really write home about. Service was slow and food was ehhh below average. Last night my husband and myself decided to give them another try. We waited in the front at the hostess desk for over 10 minutes and received no acknowledgement at all! The bar area was sort of empty compared to other nights so we picked a table and sat ..minutes later still no acknowledgement. I got up and went back to the hostess desk and in walks another couple. An older gentleman I’m assuming to be the manager waltz right over and says to them “ how many?, just 2?”. I stood there so embarrassed and finally spoke up. His only response was “no one took care of you yet?” I walked away and returned to the bar area where after another long 10 minutes the bartender (an older female) yells from behind the bar across the room to us “do you guys need menus?”. If looks could kill 🙄 we finally just got up and left the restaurant and settled for the T.G.I. Friday’s down the road. Never again will I ever even attempt to enter this establishment. Staff needs more customer service training and maybe even a bit of equality training. You treat all people the same no matter what !!!

Edited to add: as someone who worked in customer service for many years I understand that sometimes you can be overwhelmed with even the smallest amount of customers. With that being said a hey how are you guys I’ll be right with you would go a long way versus no acknowledgement and completely...

I usually pop in before 3pm with some friends or my mom but 8/27/24 my son and I wanted a quick meal without the hectic atmosphere of a big chain restaurant. First off I must say the waitress we usually have in the earlier part of the day is one of your best!! (Sorry can't remember her name) This is first time I've had a male waiter and his attitude sucked!! Ever time he came to our table it was like we needed to hurry ,for example once I said I didn't want anything to drink but water ( diabetic) rather take my calories in my meal. Never offered to bring my salad before my main entre ,when served it he practically threw it in front of me.Now I'm feeling some kind of way . When our entres come out very disappointed, my son love you chicken tenders and fries but it looked like chicken nuggets and the bottom of the fryer fries..my Delmonico 10oz steak had atleast 5oz of fat grisle hidden under a pound of tasteless mushrooms .Then after not coming to check how is everything 25 minutes later I'm still choking down this subpar meal and he asked "you need a to go container".I NEVER write reviews even when I don't enjoy what I order but the callousness and disregard he served us with was unbelievable!!! I know you guys is a small business but don't lose quality and family style...

It was such a beautiful day out so we decided we wanted to eat out at a laid back spot with a patio. I agreed upon 744 which one of my fav spots! To our dismay there was no patio service and we almost went elsewhere but I really wanted the clams casino. So we sat at the bar and I'm glad we did! The bartender was so personable and happy to be there lol!! We greeted with a smile! As always we receive an extensive menu and sit there stuck like deer in headlights because we want it all lol!! The bartender was wonderful at helping us to narrow it down! Clams casino, French Onion soup, Shrimp and Crab chowder, sweet chilli pepper wings with garlic parm dip and the NY strip topped with a sherry cream sauce with lobster meat. All of it was absolutely top notch. The flavor was nailed in every dish. I was very pleased with the food and satisfied with the portions. The steak cooked med rare to perfection and so tender.
