Sunrise Deli — Restaurant in West Haven

Tonight I craved a good ol’ fashioned big-mouthed deli submarine sandwich. I googled “ Deli sandwich near me.” I drove 8 miles out of my way to enjoy my dinner. When I arrived at rhe “Sunrise Deli” partnering at the Noble gas station, I knew I arrived.

I ordered a classic ham & cheese with extra pickles. I saw the busy cook/chef behind the counter with his purple gloves on. I knew my sandwich would be fresher than a mass-produced sub shop.

My order came with a light dousing of their house dressing. That’s the moment I was in heaven. Not only did I fall back in time to my nostalgic days when sandwiches were made to take home or take a nap afterwards, and the tastes swirled in my mouth like the first time.

I volunteered and gave my “big” thanks. Misel, the Turkish-American owner fist-bumped and accepted my praise. I paused. I realized when I was eating how many other people came in and left with their orders. I discovered a local gem. Actually, the “Sunrise” shined on me.

I left with my second-half wrapped up and an extra sauce container for tomorrow. We parted with a friendly wave and smiles with the unsaid...

A really good steak and cheese sub for only $12.95?! Yup, that’s exactly what this place offers. Every sub is $12.95 which seems weird but I’m ok with that considering most joints charge around $20 for a steak and cheese. The steak is diced up really fine and the meat to cheese ratio is practically perfect. The bread is toasted perfectly as well. I was only able to eat one half so you can definitely split this with someone to save even more money. My cousin grabbed the buffalo wings (6 for about $10) I don’t think those were really worth it but only because I prefer crispy wings over saucy. These were a good size though. The chipotle mayo is also fantastic. I got it on the side but it will definitely be part of my order every time I get a steak and cheese. Overall, definitely worth it and I will definitely be going back and can’t wait to try the other things they offer like chicken tenders. Really good curly fries and you get a good amount...

My first visit I had the steak and cheese with onions and it was awesome. Defitiely one of the best I ever had. Perfect ratio of beef, cheese and onions. I think the beef is ribeye cut and it was plentiful, cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The cheese seemed to be LoL taste profile and complicated the beef very well. The onions gave off a French onion soup flavor but it was subtle and much welcomed.

A couple of weeks later I visited again and had the BLT with mayo on a sub. The BLT was the best I have ever had. The bacon was great quality and cooked perfectly for a BLT. They also stack the bacon on the sub roll perfectly and there's a lot of it. They use Hellmann's mayo for sure which made the BLT perfect.
