Mario's Deli — Restaurant in West Milford

Extremely Disappointing Experience - Ignored and Forgotten My son and I visited Mario's Deli today, May 17, 2025, around 12:45 PM, and it was hands down the worst deli experience I've ever had. We walked in and were completely ignored by the staff for a full 15 minutes. It wasn't until another customer came in and looked ready to order that I had to speak up and point out that we hadn't been served. I placed a simple order for two sandwiches: one plain turkey sandwich and one half pastrami with American cheese and mustard. After another 15 minutes passed, during which at least four other customers who came in after us received their orders, our sandwiches were still nowhere in sight. When I inquired, the staff claimed they "might've fell somewhere" and they couldn't find our order ticket. By this point, my son had been waiting patiently for 45 minutes just to get a simple sandwich. I had to specifically ask them to please, quickly make my son's sandwich as he was very hungry. I always try to be understanding and avoid confrontation, but this level of disregard and inefficiency is unacceptable. Waiting 45 minutes for two basic sandwiches, being ignored, and then told our order was lost is beyond frustrating. This experience has unfortunately pushed me to share this negative review. Last weekend(8/18/18) I ordered my Son a regular old grilled cheese(2 slices of bread and maybe 2 slices of cheese). The cashier rang me up $5.88!!!! I said: for a regular old grilled cheese? It says $3.50 on your menu board?? She glanced up and said: that’s probably one of the menu items we haven’t updated. I tried again: I see a grilled cheese with meat is $5.50(which I often get), maybe you rang me up for that? Nope, not the case; they literally are “banging you” for $5.88 on a basic grilled cheese!!! Now don’t get me wrong, ALL THE STAFF THERE ARE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL AND NICE!!! But the pricing dynamic is WAY THE HELL OFF!! Not just the grilled cheese situation but they have devil dogs on the counter(not labeled for individual sale) for like $2.00 each!!! All kinds of stuff. Often my whole family will have me order from there and I always wondered why the totals were never consistent even though I would buy the same things!!🤔🤔 So now they have definitely lost my business, my Son is almost 10 years old and he even said: Daddy there’s no way to justify spending that much money on a basic grilled cheese!! I’ve been going there for a long time and I’ve seen this many times, The owners treat their employees harshly and they’re rude to the customers, in my experience the customer is always right but over there they have an attitude like it’s the best deli in the world...It’s not that good they’re cold cut section is pathetic, The coffee is always out in the self-serve section in the morning and they never make a sandwich the way you asked for it. As the owner says it’s my way or the highway, that’s a loser attitude for a business owner and the only reason why they get customers is because they’re the only deli in town.
