I suffer from depression and social anxiety. I rarely get time to myself so I was both happy to sit comfortably by myself for a bit and nervous because I had a sick feeling that I was going to be stood up by my family member who has a habit of standing me up. After ordering I tried to read and calm myself but my server would check in every 5 minutes to ask me what my family member wanted to order. This was fine, and I tried my best to help get the answer but since my calls and texts were being ignored, I just felt guilty- as though I was taking up their time/or an extra seat. (I know this isn't the case, I just felt bad.)
As I was finishing my food I was considering giving my family member another shot to show up so I had planned to order something else like a milkshake w/fries, or something to pick at, but my server abruptly placed the check down without making eye contact or saying anything to me. She exchanged plesantries with the tables before and after me, so I was getting ready to tLk to her but i dont think she saw me? So that made me feel worse. Again, the guilt I felt from taking up time and space in a diner was not her fault but I know customer service- placing a check down without eye contact or saying anything to the person who ordered is very off-putting.
I didn't have time to ask to order anything else. I just took it as a hint that i was hindering or taking up space (even though it wasn't crowded). I got up, paid and left.
I grew up eating at Eppies. It was a family favorite because it was my Grandpa's favorite. I brought my husband once and he wasn't treated poorly.
This is why I thought I could try again but even just coming by myself, I did not feel welcome and I was really hoping to have found a place I could at least feel safe to...
Read moreOne of my favorite things is to find a great diner and eat delicious food. Sure, Michelin stars and servers in slacks and tablecloths are lovely. But I LOVE diners. And some of the best food and people are to be found there in my experience. Eppies is one of those places. I finally heeded the days long call for biscuits and gravy and decided to try Eppies today.
And I'm SO happy I did because this place is a hidden gem! It's very clean, relaxed and has the nicest servers around. If I had more time I would have happily dined in, but my review today is for the to-go experience.
I had the country scramble and onion rings-don't judge me I skipped breakfast! The scramble was so good and exactly what I wanted. The gravy was subtle but I appreciated the generous portion and sausages. The onion rings were crispy and perfectly breaded not too heavy. Everything was well packaged and arrived back at home ready to eat.
I think if you're traveling on the 80/50 or a local resident you should absolutely give Eppies a try! They also seem very family friendly, with patient and kind servers who won't get upset at tiny picky eaters and their exhausted parents.
Can't wait to go back and try their steak...
Read moreWhar can I say about a Sacramento dining institution. Here in West Sac, there is Eppie's. They had an old building off Enterprise Rd, that was demolished years ago. I always wondered where they went if at all. So glad to see them still around.
They have this site, a good look on their building exterior so had to give them a try again.
They didn't disappoint. Their menu is as big as ever since I last had a meal many many years ago. Upon entering (on a cloudy cold afternoon), they have the heating on alright. The wait staff allowed me to seat in an area that is not directly under the a vent.
The meal I chose was the French Dip. The price point is comparable to any sit down eatery. I had choice of Fries, Soup, Salad or Fruit. The meat is tender, the Au Ju is steamy hot and just the right taste to mame the dip sandwhich even more better.
I give this location a full 5 Stars rating based on everything one would hope to experience. That 5th Star is specially given when an business provides a Military / Veterans Discount. Eppie's met and suroassed my expectations. It is a must try in the...
