UPDATE 7/12/2024
This is not a reflection of the staff, who I think are doing the best they can, but of the owners and their management.
I still love the coffee here, and the pastries. But it seems since the food menu was added a few months ago, things have gotten out of hand.
The staff seems flustered by the amount of work (there are definitely not enough hands on weekends or busy times), the new staff seem to be undertrained (probably due to lack of employees on the clock to both train and get things done), and the food is...well, overpriced for what you get and what state you sometimes get it in, unfortunately.
My husband and I have been loyal weekend regulars for almost half a year now, but we are struggling to remain loyal - with long wait times and incorrect orders.
I want to pay the price tag here for what I used to experience - great quality in experience, food, and beverages. But I don't want to pay it for a company that doesn't seem to value giving its employees enough margin to do the right thing and to be able to breathe.
This is an amazing location with great people and also even greater potential. Please hire more people and/or update your procedures/workflows to help your employees succeed.
Original review I didn't know I could like coffee before discovering Collective.
First I fell in love with the baked goods (especially the coffee cake and the feta/spinach Danish!), then as my husband and I continued to visit every weekend, I fell in love with the coffee.
This is such a unique business with such quality. You can feel the heart poured into every cup and every item behind the counter.
It's worth it not only to stop in, but to plan to stop in when...
Read moreCollective is my favorite spot to grab a drink, enjoy spontaneous conversation, and eat excessive amounts of pastries (and ideally get some work done as well).
Alex is the GM and he does an amazing job making everyone feel welcome. On top of that, he and his team make some exceptional drinks. I'm partial to their various iced and hot teas which Alex hand blends. The Blue Pineapple Oolong is a top-notch example of this (see attached pic).
The environment is perfect for a casual meeting, doing work, or just relaxing -- a fantastic example of an informal public "Third Place." The Wi-Fi is solid, and I'm able to stream my files from the cloud easily. Extra outlets are available near most seats, and there's plenty of seating both inside and out.
Collective Coffee is another amazing venue from proprietors David & Tim. They are responsible for some of my other favorite restaurants: Bloom Southern Kitchen, The Stables Beer Garden, Oori, and Morgantown Coffee House. I especially appreciate their eye for detail to make visits exceptionally comfortable. Most importantly, David & Tim hire exceptional people that make every...
Read moreLove this place!! From the bright/clean interior, to friendly staff and delicious drinks/food, I have been a fan since day one. Although not super local, I have been to Collective on multiple occasions. Things we love...pop tarts/cookies for the kids (pop tarts are the cutest!), gluten friendly options for me (HUGE win - the muffins/scones/cookies are insane and hard to find anywhere else like this), and delicious espresso drinks (love the seasonal options and custom syrups too). I purchased whole bean coffee for at home brewing for the first time recently and super impressed. The "Campfire and Sweatpants" blend is perfect for a medium balanced cup of winter vibes coffee. Bag says notes of burnt sugar, molasses and cinnamon, but I swear there's a hint of marshmallow in there :) Doesn't need anything but a splash of creamer and my day is off to a great start. Collective is worth the drive for me with so many great options and is a...
