Went in on Sunday with a group of 7 women. We sat at the bar abutting the OPEN kitchen. We watched with a little amusement (we all work or have worked in the service industry) as the cook on the grill dropped the bottom half of a bun on the floor. Ugh…that sucks!
But our amusement turned to horror as we watched the other cook pick it up and place it back in the grill, where it was grabbed, dressed with lettuce and tomato, and then PUT ON A PLATE TO SERVE!!
Even though they tried to ignore us, we yelled and screamed until they threw it away.
A member of our group went to let the manager/owner know what was going on so it could be addressed and avoided in the future. But? He treated her like a liar and kept referring to his 96 point health inspection, as if that negated what we just saw. He checked in with the kitchen, and the cooks acted like they had no idea what was going on. Then he looked in the trash and saw a bun and was like “well….there is a bun in the trash sooo….” Which my friend pointed out was only because we made them throw it away.
Owner then said, right in front of us (cuz remember….open kitchen) “Just do your best, there will always be SOMEBODY watching.” As he rolled his eyes and gestured towards us.
So not only did he not apologize or try to do anything to rectify the situation, but he completely invalidated and dismissed a group of 7 women as liars.
That was the final straw. I offered to pay for our drinks and then let him know we were taking our business elsewhere. He waved his hands at us like he was shooing away flies and said “just void it all.” And that was that.
Not a shred of managerial prowess or understanding of the hospitality/service industry to be found.
Don’t eat here….fist because you could get floor food from a seafood restaurant and get very sick, and second because the owner clearly doesn’t respect health and safety, or...
Read moreI would absolutely give this place 0 stars but it’s not an option. While seated at the bar, my party and I were watching the kitchen cooking (they’re an open kitchen) and we watched the kid on the grill drop a part of a burger bun on the floor. Then, he placed it off to the side, not realizing my 8 friends and I are watching. Then seconds pass and I see him dressing the bun that was on the ground with lettuce and tomato, and PUT IT ON A PLATE. We promptly intervened because like you were going to serve that??? No way. Then I asked to speak to a manager because how are you going to have that happening in your establishment, so he promptly pointed to his “96 health inspection rating” and made it seem like I’m making it up. He went into the kitchen and told me “there’s a burger bun in the trash”, and I informed him that the only reason is because my party and I called him out…
Disappointing and disgusting experience. Take your money else where, literally...

I had the fish sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious—crispy, perfectly cooked, and served on a soft, toasted bun. It came with thick-cut fries, a bright lemon wedge, and the best coleslaw I’ve had in a while. The slaw had Brussels sprouts and kale mixed in, which gave it a super fresh crunch and nice flavor balance.
We also tried the clam chowder—rich, creamy, and exactly what you want from New England-style chowder. The side of hush puppies was a bonus treat—crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and perfect with the dipping sauce and lemon.
Everything was served fresh, and we enjoyed our meal outdoors with a relaxing seaside breeze. Whether you’re just off the beach or looking for classic seafood in a casual spot, Caswell’s is...
