We were very impressed with our first visit to Golden Peacock! After discovering that our longtime “go-to” Chinese food establishment in Springfield, underwent a change of ownership (we had been loyal customers there, for over 30 years), and that along with the change of ownership, came changes to the food (not for the better), we realized that we needed to begin a search for a new, replacement “go-to” Chinese restaurant. This “search” led us to Golden Peacock. After reading a number of online reviews, and obtaining some referrals from friends and family, who have also had positive experiences here, we decided to give it a try. The food was very good! The service was impressive, as well! We found the staff to be attentive, very friendly, and well- organized. The atmosphere here, was very inviting. Carpet, tables/booths, bar area, were all very cleanly and tidy. The only minor thing that was somewhat noticeable, on our first-time visit, was that the wallpaper/wall decor was a bit dated, and that some of the wallpaper seams were pealing back a bit, off the wall, in the take-out waiting area. Again, MINOR thing! As far as the food goes, we sampled a variety of our favorite items from the menu, including chicken fingers, pork fried rice, egg rolls, and the general’s chicken. Everything was very good. Prices and food portions were reasonable. We found that the general’s chicken was a bit spicier than we were accustomed to, but aside from the “heat factor”, the flavor and texture was still excellent! The chicken fingers, egg rolls, and pork fried rice, were all very good, as well. Overall, we were very pleased with our first experience at Golden Peacock! We definitely plan on returning soon, to try some additional items...
Read moreI had heard alot of good things about Golden Peacock so my friend and I went there for lunch after a swim at Camp Jahn. We got a House Bowl instead of the scorpion bowl from the recommendation of our waitress. I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between the two but it didn't matter because it was tasty. We shared a pupu platter for 2 and it was tons of food. We added an extra side of crab rangoons. Golden Peacock has the best crab rangoons I have ever had. The filling is creamy and crabby and the outside is flaky and crispy. It is clear that Golden Peacock changes their fry oil often and it makes a world of difference in the taste of the food. The waitress was a comedian in the making. Very helpful and very funny. Quite entertaining lady. The ambiance is definitely strip-mall chinese restaurant vibe and could use a bit of work but overall the service and food is top notch. I highly recommend this place. Good prices....
Read moreClosest thing I have found that is similar to the Chinese food in Eastern MA. Boston area Chinese food is known nationally for the way they prepare it. The brown lobster sauce with pork. Darker rice and lo mein. The really old school restaurants use celery in their egg rolls. I was pleasantly surprised with the food at the Golden Peacock. The hot and sour soup was spot on. Had the regular fillers including black fungus, tofu, mushrooms and a few others. You could taste the flavors created by the wine and vinegar. The soup finished with a nice kick. The lo mein was absolutely delicious! I could have eaten a big bowl of this. The shrimp and lobster sauce were on point. Although the egg rolls were more cabbage, they had a really nice flavor. Wings were delicious hot out of the kitchen. Crispy and juicy. Probably better to enjoy these at the restaurant. If you're a transplant from the eastern part of the state, this is your...
