Since moving to Indy, we have struggled to find a good Korean restaurant. A lot of the ones in the area seem to be heavily focused on KBBQ, which isn't necessarily our style of Korean, and while Korean BBQ & Chicken has a BBQ component, they have a generous menu of more traditional dishes, so with our curiosity piqued, we made the trek across town to try it.
The verdict: we were very impressed and it felt like being back home. The Korean dishes were not commercialized or tried to be something they weren't - they were homey and cozy and filled with great flavor without going to any extremes, such that a lot of places like to add a lot of sugar. The ingredients and tradition were allowed to speak for themselves. We had the Dolsot Bibimbop, Kimchi Pork Bokkeum, Tteokbboki, and Kimbap. Everything was delicious, fresh, and exactly what we were hoping for.
Everyone there was very friendly, energetic, gracious and hospitable. There was even a birthday for someone at the next table and they went all out in their celebration for them.
And don't even get me started on the banchan (side dishes)...it's the most I have ever seen at a restaurant, even in Korea, and they were all delicious.
We will definitely be back and I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to try their Korean dishes, because this is basically the taste and feeling of what it's like to go back home to your parents for a delicious home cooked meal, but if you...
Read moreIf its your first visit or first time eating Korean food, you can't go wrong with Bulgoki... marinated meat.
We came to check out the lunch specials!
This is the place to come for real, authentic Bimbimbop with marinated bulgoki (meat), original slightly runny fried egg (ask for over hard if you aren't used to this), and the original toppings. Very pretty and colorful when put together correctly. See below!
The lunch special portion comes with abundant Korean side dishes which today were: 1) delicious kimchee, 2)delicate fried green beans with light sesame oil, 3) Cucumber kimchi, 4) omook, 5) slices of buchujeon (chive pancake), 6) special, slightly sweet peanuts in lite soy sauce 7) bean sprouts 8) sweet vinegary kelp 9) lite sweet soy saucy cubed potatoes 10) fresh, lightly sesame oil broccoli 11) sweet shredded radish- like dish
I had Soondubu (seafood) which comes in a large earthen bowl. My friend had Kimchi jiggae which was spicy. I am told that the food tastes like Gyeongsang Province style (my friends' family heritage) so they particularly REALLY enjoyed it. Me too! Will...
Read moreWe had been wanting to try this place for a while because the reviews are stellar. However, I’m not gonna lie, it left a little to be desired in my opinion. Let me preface this by admitting that I don’t think I’ve ever been to any other authentic Korean restaurant apart from this one so I don’t truly know what the experience or food is supposed to be like. With that said, I thought the food was bland and simple, especially for the price. Inside is cozy but nothing fancy. This place seems to be extremely popular among Asian parties though so maybe I’m not the best judge. The popularity leads me to believe it is truly authentic Korean cuisine. I think I simply may just not be a fan. I need more flavor and spice. The service is decent. Give it a try if you’re in search of Korean food. I think it’s essentially one of the only places which serves such food within a 10 mile radius. I’d probably recommend the BBQ since I’m pretty sure that’s what they’re known for. It was just too expensive for us to want to try; we ordered bowls instead, which may have been where we went wrong. The prices...
