a new restaurant that popped up! I actually am from arizona but my (viet) family heard of this restaurant opening up and we decided to try it while we are in cali! the food came out really fast, I ordered bo luc lac (shaking beef) with rice (ik what you're thinking, "who goes to a bun bo hue place and orders bo luc lac?" LOL) and it was very excellent! portion was big enough for me to have leftovers, the beef was cooked perfectly, came with chopped onions, bell peppers, asparagus, and of course, rice. my mother and grandma got bowls of bun bo hue and I got to try some of theirs. the broth in the bun bo hue is superb. some of my setbacks for the bun bo hue though is that all 3 of us agreed that the beef was a little hard, at least in our bowls (maybe it's an inconsistency thing?). it would've been better if they were cooked longer to be more tender and easier to eat. I also personally prefer my noodles to be a little bit softer, but I'm also not an experienced bun bo hue eater so maybe that's just how the noodles are normally? (fake viet ik) they weren't super hard or anything, but just a preference thing. overall though the people working were very nice (lots of people on deck working when I came around 12:30 pm on a tuesday), able to answer any questions you have. when you're done eating you go up and pay at the register, instead of them bringing you a bill. it was pretty busy when we went as well, lots of people and filled tables! parking was a little hard to find as there are lots of businesses in the area but not a proportionate/super huge parking lot. I'd also say it's a little tight if you drive a bigger end suv, or something even bigger...
Read morePlease believe the negative reviews When I first read the reviews on Yelp, I tried to be positive and not to trust the negative as I wanted to give my first visit to this new place since I already ate at Ghien Mi Go before (both have the same owner) and the food there was good. I was blindsided and had to pay the price for not trusting Yelp's negative reviews. Me and my family all had Bun Bo there and we all had stomachache and diarrhea after :( We were thinking the reason we got stomachache is due to blood curd in Bun Bo at this place. Me and my mom ate the blood curd and had to spit it out right away, we couldn't even swallow it due to the bad smell, maybe it was rotten or something. The food was not even tasty, like it was not taste like Bun Bo at all. Quite small portion tho. This was my first time eating here and I will never come back again. I used to love going to Ghien Mi Go for Hu tieu bc the food there was actually good and tasty, but I'm not sure why and what happened to Ghien Bun Bo, nothing can compare to Ghien Mi Go even though they have the same owner. Lastly, on the extra note, the bathroom here was...
Read moreThis place is a few months new, nice, clean, pleasant. The young wait staff is polite and efficient, sounds like siblings in the same family.
Their bun bo is the Southern version of bun bo Hue. The broth is way too sweet with too much sugar, too much MSG, also too salty and lacking depth of bone stock and Hue's unique lemon grass and shrimp paste flavor.
The $15.95 bowl is smaller than competition, about the same size as the $10 bun bo bowl at Van's and about 2/3 the $16 large bowl at Ngu Binh.
There are plenty of protein in the bowl. The shank and tendon were cooked perfectly, but the beef balls are soft and grainy, not chewy.
Since the broth was too sweet and salty I had difficulties finishing even half of this small bowl. After eating I had a numbing pain in my heart, and nerves along the my spinal column and the back of my neck were tight in knots, agitated for more than half a day, indication of excess MSG and other stimulants in the soup.
I was about to order a banh canh tom cua to go just to try it, but knowing how sweet, salty and MSG it would be , I decided against it.
This place is not worth...
