Old school, hole-in-the-wall, yes it's all true and I love it that way. It's not the type of place that tries to impress you with fancy decor or trendy food, but instead relies on their quality, nostalgic-style dishes. For this reason, Peking Restaurant is, hands down, my favorite Chinese food in Orange County. Excellent food that my family and I have enjoyed repeatedly at Peking Restaurant: honey walnut shrimp, sesame chicken (just as flavorful as orange chicken and sweet & sour chicken, but for some reason underrated. It's not really all that spicy, despite the name), chop suey, steamed dumplings, beef roll/Lu-Lee roll, fried rice, chicken with mushrooms, pan fried beef noodle, mu shu pork. This restaurant knows how to make these classics just right, and your group will feel at home in their humble, family-friendly dining area. There is a sign at the front desk that you can avoid extra fees if you pay in cash. Since I always go for takeout however, ordering online requires a credit card and I've not yet found an option that lets me order online and still pay in cash at the restaurant. This is apparently their preferred form of payment, so bring plenty of cash if you plan to order in...
Read moreDo not expect the place to be lit up with nice decor nor a theme that matches the name of the restaurant [ie. Alice in wonderland, Orange Hill, Shenandoah at the Arbor]
What you get here are elderly chinese women taking your order & serving them with broken english. Not saying it to raze them. I'm just saying don't expect up scale service.
Only thing I ever get here is the soup dumpling and beef roll. (In that order) the soup dumpling is terribly delicious. The juice squirts out and fills up your mouth like a maiden's head ;)
The Family Dinner A & B option got me f up. Normally the marketing purpose is to save a few bucks if you choose that option. Option A for $55.95 you get to choose 4 items between 1-19. These dishes are selected from the regular menu up to $13.95 per dish.
$13.95 x 4 dishes = $55.8 A total savings of $0.15 Being Chinese, i know they feel like they gave too much of a discount lmao
Please, please, please get the soup dumplings. Well worth it.
The beef roll was generous in size and beef which is perfect amount for cost. The surprise bite into the onion made it good.
P.S. get the soup dumpling....
Read moreThis is a hidden gem of Chinese restaurant in Orange county. Been there about 10+ times, sometimes alone, other times with my wife. I go there primarily for dumplings. Pan fried, boiled and in the soup. My comfort food.
Outside look is modest, plain. And not fancy decor inside. But the dumplings, wow.
Then I began trying other dishes. Fish in their sauce. Cooked just right, with right amount of flavor, not overpowering, just right. Delicious.
Service is prompt, efficient, not a lot of extra conversations, but comforting like my mom would be. The owners/ chef care about their food, and care about you.
Once or twice, I was admonished I was ordering too much food for one person. Had to explain I plan to taste them, then take them home so I'm to-go containers.
I miss their Pan- fried dumplings from time to time. Been to several dumpling restaurants in downtown LA, San Gabriel Valley area. Been around Southern California for over 40 years. With all that experience and many Chinese restaurant experiences, this place and their Pan- fried dumpling puts a smile on my...
