Decided to visit the backyard sports lounge after seeing a social media post and knowing what the bar used to be back when it was called lazy dog many years ago. Went in to see multiple TVs most running the CU Buffs game, which makes sense. After sitting at the bar for about five minutes, I was finally greeted by my server/bartender, Breezy. She asked what I was drinking and I responded by saying âwhat do you have on draft?â She responded that they didnât have any draft lines. Surprised, I asked for a Blue Moon and received it quickly with a follow up if I wanted anything to eat. I was brought a paper menu with food on it. I mean ACTUAL food on it (I think it was queso). So, I decided on a simple hatch chili cheeseburger and fries, but my decision wouldnât be executed on for another 15 minutes as I was essentially ignored (which is impressive considering there were probably only 10 people at the bar top and two bartenders). She did come around and take my order though. At that point, Iâd finished my beer and decided to order an Old Fashioned. She asked if Bulleit was okay because âthatâs all we haveâ. I said sure. I watched her make the drink and saw her shaking the drink, which, Iâm no bartender, but pretty sure thatâs not how you make an Old Fashioned. My food came out and while it wasnât terrible, it wasnât nothing to write home about either. I had specifically asked for no tomato, lettuce, onion pickle, and my burger did come with onion on it but no big deal just took it off. While I was eating, Breezy came up and said âIâm not rushing you but Iâm clocking out soon.â So I took that as meaning I needed to pay and noticing that the receipt she brought me had a QR code on it I decided to pay right then and there. A few minutes later, she came up to me again and told me again that she was about ready to clock out and if I needed anything else or if I was ready to pay. I told her that I already paid on the QR code.
After she left, I was greeted by I believe her name was Fiona. She asked me if everything was good and I informed her that while I had already paid, I was not impressed with And that it was more like watered down bourbon (which after one taste, I decided not to drink). This bartender casually responded that âoh she probably shook itâ to which I agreed. No attempt to correct via refund or at least offer to make it correctly.
And thatâs that. Take it as you will. Gave a new bar in the community a chance, but I wonât be back. Best of...
Read moreStopped in around 3:15 PM and there were only a few people at the bar, maybe four total. For a place that calls itself a Sports Lounge, I was surprised to see none of the TVs were tuned to any major sports channelsânot even ESPN. Instead, they had daytime TV on, which really killed the sports atmosphere.
Another issue is pricing and value. There were no mid-day happy hour specials, and a bottle of Coors Light was $6, which feels overpriced given the overall experience. If youâre trying to draw people in during slower hours, some simple drink or food specials would go a long way.
One more thing worth mentioningâthe glare from the windows when the sun starts to go down is unbearable. It makes it hard to even look toward the bar or TVs. Investing in some window tint or shades would make a big difference in customer comfort.
I didnât try the food, but it did look good coming out of the kitchen. The place has potential, but it really needs some attention to detailâbetter TV programming, improved atmosphere, reasonable happy hour options, and some adjustments to the seating environment would make this place a lot...
Read moreI didn't realize that The Backyard Sports Lounge was open (formerly Hill House). Cleaned up bar with new pool tables and dart boards (a plus!). Stopped in for a quick drink and spoke with the bartender and owner (father and daughter). Very engaging and working hard to build their local customer base (they have two other businesses). Tuesday was Trivia Night - not a lot of people but they have only been open for a month or two. Didn't order food but saw what was coming out of the kitchen which looked good and customers commented it was. They are looking into live music and other events. Planning on going back and looking forward to see how this...
