Normally, I love this place as it's fast, relatively inexpensive and delicious. Today, tho is the worst experience as I sat down waiting for 20 min during their dinner rush hour and not one of the waitresses noticed nor acknowledged me till I went up to the cash register. Then, I had to wait longer and they never served me any water upon request. 3 stars is for previous fast experiences, but tonight's not one of them.
Edited review: went there again today and had been noticing the same waitress every time for the last several visits. I could tell it wasn't that busy during my second to last visit as by the time u got there, she seemed to have taken care of everyone. But, after 10 minutes, she never bothered to take my order and seemed to be just standing behind the counter. I ended up getting up and placing my order with a guy that seemed kinda new to me and he was fine.
Today's visit, is the same waitress. She's taken my order many times before, but always asks the same question: lettuce, cheese, and tomato? For my tacos, to which I always reply with, "and onions and cilantro" and I heard her repeat it, yet she later allows my completed food to sit for over 5 minutes and the cooks that have always been there asked her if my order was correct because they've seen me always order with the same toppings. So she confirmed with me, saying, "only onions and cilantro?" While she apologized, I'm not a fan of her suggesting that because I don't look Mexican, that I want it the "American" way. I've been coming to this location for a nearly as long as they've been around and I'm simply not a fan of her.
I'm a bit annoyed with her as a waitress because I've had better service with previous waitresses there before. She clearly didn't hear me correctly, but I heard her say "and."
On another previous visit, this same waitress spent more than 20 minutes talking to another customer (seemingly non- work related) instead of taking my order while I waited.
I think from now on, I'll make sure to serve myself and give no tip since this waitress is so...
Read moreOh, how I miss this place!!! I used to live in Downers Grove, and this was my go-to spot for real Mexican, even if it was midnight, and I wanted a burrito or a couple of carne asada(steak) tacos 🌮, and no matter the time it is alwats hopping. After dropping off my kids downtown and in another suburb for the weekend, Lollapalooza festivities, my youngest and I decided we would stop by our old stopping grounds and get tacos at 9:30pm. The place was packed, and the number of customers coming in and out over the course of 1.5grs there was insane. The food here is the type of food that makes you just want to kick off your shoes, have a beer 🍺 or Jarito and just enjoy life, while all the flavors just sing to your soul (like in Ratatouille) all while a tear just rolls down your cheek from pure happiness. The carne asada tacos are well seasoned, cilantro and onions are fresh and never old, the corn tortillas are never dry and have such a great smooth corn texture to it, limes are juicy, and the salsas are incredible. As a dine in customer, they provide you with all you can eat chips and salsa. Best chips, hands down, just the right amount of crunch, but still so flaky and the salsa.....if I could drink it, I would. I have had everything on their menu over the course of my 12 yrs in DG. I now live about an hour away from there, and man, do I wish they would open up a restaurant out here, whether in Oswego, Yorkville, or Plainfield. You would rake in the cash. We don't have great places like this here. I've tried several and still find myself needing to drive to Aurora to get decent tacos from a taco truck at a grocery store. So if you are reading this review...please consider opening up shop this way in any of those 3 areas. This side of town needs some real flavor. Tacos...
Read moreThis was my second time there. On that day, I had lunch. It was the middle of a Saturday afternoon, and it was busy. The server didn't even take my order, just invited me a couple times to sit down, while I studied the menu on the wall. I was surprised at this, as the first time I ate here, I ordered at the cashier station before sitting down. The earlier time I ate here, it was a weeknight dinner, somewhat busy, but with better faster service.
I eventually settled on what I wanted and had a seat. The same server brought me a basket of tortillas and red salsa, but didn't take my order. She got busy with a group of older folks at the next table, who arrived later than I did, but actually got their food before I did. (These older folks later left with another woman who works there. Maybe related to the owners of the restaurant, or are the owners themselves?)
The chips were tasty and the salsa spicy and fresh, and I finished them without my order being taken. The server came out to ask me what I had ordered and I told her I hadn't yet. I asked for a torta of carne asada and a large horchata (listed on the menu as rice water), and she put it in with the cook. A minute later, she came back to ask me if I wanted a regular horchata and I said large.
I noted on my phone that it was over half an hour before my food came out. I was hungry and...
