I really wanted to love my experience with The Great Greek, but unfortunately it fell short, especially from a catering perspective.
On the positive side, their online ordering system was easy to navigate and placing my order a day ahead was simple. I appreciated being able to schedule pick-up for 10:45 AM. That part of the process felt seamless.
The challenges started the day of pick-up. When I called to confirm my order, the staff couldn’t locate it under the name until I mentioned what I had ordered and clarified it was online. Once they did, I was told the rice wasn’t ready because a large catering order before mine had taken all of it, and it would take another 20 minutes to make more. Since I had a work meeting scheduled, and it was 10:45AM already, I asked if they could substitute rice with something else on hand (salad, pita, etc.), but the staff seemed overwhelmed and unable to pivot quickly. The food wasn’t ready and out the door until 11:30 AM. That meant, they didn’t even start my order until I got there for the scheduled pick up time. The lack of organization made me miss my business meeting by about 30 minutes cutting into my own opportunity cost.
What really stood out to me was that there were only two employees handling multiple large catering orders—one at the register and one in the kitchen. This felt like a management issue more than a staff issue, as the team was clearly under-resourced for the demand. Another vendor waiting alongside me had to call a different restaurant just to source rice in order to fulfill their own catering. It was a logistical nightmare for anyone relying on timely service.
On top of the delays, the food itself was disappointing. The chicken and falafel were both very dry, and overall, the quality didn’t reflect the price point (over $200–$300 per order). For catering, consistency and timeliness are everything, and unfortunately neither were delivered here.
I think this restaurant has potential—they clearly have a good system for online ordering, and the cook on-site were doing their best under pressure. But without better planning, staffing, and preparation (especially knowing about large orders 24 hours in advance), it’s hard to recommend The Great Greek for business catering. Sadly, after this experience, I won’t be returning for business catering or personal meals. Consider this experience a...
Read moreWith the first location opening back in 2011 and new ownership taking over The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill in 2016, their vision is to be the worldwide leader in fast food Mediterranean food by producing consistently delicious Greek food, made with authentic recipes and fresh ingredients. I heard great things about this franchise from a buddy, so it was great to discover they finally opened an Irvine location. At the time of this review, they have only been open for a few months so the establishment is new and clean.
I ordered the Kids Souvlaki Plate for my daughter and she chose the single skewer of Steak and the Rice. This meal also includes a Chopped Salad and a beverage of choice…nice! My choice of menu item was the Gyro Plate described as “Tender Sliced Gyro Meat on Pita Bread Served with a Side Salad, Tzatziki, and Your Choice of Rice Pilaf, French Fries or Feta Fries”. I went with the Rice Pilaf, but my buddy ordered the Feta Fries and they looked fabulous! Everything tasted fresh so I consumed everything and had no leftovers. The staff was friendly and even checked in on us during our meal. If you’re looking for a fast food Mediterranean option, def consider giving The Great...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at the great Greek Mediterranean grill in Irvine. and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. From the moment I walked in, the warm, inviting ambiance transported me to the Mediterranean coast. The menu was a delightful showcase of authentic Mediterranean flavors, with a wide variety of options to suit every palate. I started with the hummus, which was creamy, rich, and perfectly seasoned, served with freshly baked pita bread. For my main meal Ii got the salad wrap sandwich with grilled shrimp and it was exactly what I expected packed with fresh veggies and the shrimp was absolutely divine tender, juicy, and bursting with aromatic herbs and spices. The service was impeccable. The person at the register was very knowledgeable, friendly, he recommended a fantastic wine pairing that complemented my meal perfectly. Overall, the great Greek is a gem. Whether you are a fan of Mediterranean cuisine or just looking for a healthy diet , this place is a must visit. I cannot wait to return and explore more of their menu....
