This place has the potential to be really good, but my first experience was severely lacking.
While the bagels were better than I had expected (their own description calling them light & airy had me fearing a cakey dupe!), the schmear provided was a joke.. sort of.
I ordered the nova lox schmear, but it had no lox!! I questioned it at pickup and the otherwise friendly employee lied to my face! He said it was full of lox even though it wasn't evident from the outside appearance.
I had never heard such a thing & was quite skeptical. However, I gave the benefit of the doubt, as is my norm.
Unfortunately, my initial concern was well justified. There were maybe two itty-bitty, truly miniscule, practically microscopic shreds of lox in the entire container!! Honestly, because it was instead so incredibly overloaded with dill, it was inedible. Downright disgusting in fact.
These are expensive bagels. They are outside my budget really, but I am an 60'sh Jewish connoisseur since early childhood and I was hoping for a treat. I factored the the schmear into the value. Big mistake, since I had to dump it and make my own.
Last issue - I couldn't find the place.. Rich's Bagels is in a new busy strip plaza. However, they had No sign, they provide No phone number, they Do Not receive text messages!! They are impossible to contact once your order is placed.
Admittedly, I was pissed. I almost didn't get my bagels at all, as they had actually closed by the time I arrived.
If they will instead offer a legitimate lox schmear (without dill) I would certainly consider trying again. The bagels themselves (poppyseed) were quite good. But as is, I was very...
Read moreThe line was worth the wait. Period. Arrived here at 8am/doors open - just in time for warm fresh bagels right out of the oven. YUM. Ordered a sesame bagel untoasted with chive cream cheese. Delicious. Only thing to say is the bagel is a tad chewy. But as a New Yorker I’ll find anything to rag on a bagel not made in New York. I WILL SAY THOUGH— Rich Spirit puts Rosenberg’s to shame- on bagels and price- by a long shot. My boyfriend ordered an everything with lox and chive cream cheese. We both agree the cream cheese is excellent and the lox was tasty af. By the end of his bagel his jaw was hurting a bit but not enough to stop him from taking down another bagel. One interesting fact- you can order pick up, but they only prepare it once you arrive so it’s still super fresh. We did not know about the pick up before arriving. Something we LOVED is how much you can tell the staff just love bagels. The interior feels freshly renovated and incompletely as of yet, but the bagels steal the show and that’s really all that matters. Will be back...
Read moreOne of the better bagels in town, but could be improved.
Service: Friendly staff, but service is pretty slow for just a bagel. They have been busy both times I've visited, but regardless, about a 10-15min wait for two bagels is slow.
Food: Flavors are great, I really enjoyed both the everything and the poppy seed bagels. The everything was very salty though and could benefit from toning down the added salt. The texture of the bagels is poor, extremely chewy outer (it hurts our teeth, they can be so tough!). The bagels kind of collapse when you bite into them so you end up with a smooshed bagel, instead of light and fluffy one.
Atmosphere: Really cool spot, in a great part of town. There's a dinner like section inside where you can sit down. Line forms outside so not a big deal on a nice day, but might a cold wait in the winter.
Overall, I really like this place alot and do plan on coming back. But I hope this review is taken as constructive and the pain points are improved. It's a small business and I hope...
