We were in the area and had been meaning to try this place. I wish we hadn't. Our waitress was very nice. There's nothing bad to say about that. But the food, absolutely horrible. My wife and I both tried the tenderloin and our son, the kids spaghetti. The tenderloin left a brown pool of grease on our plates. You can imagine how it tasted. Furthermore, even if it wasn't a greasy mess, the breading flavor was subpar at best. After one bite, I decided that I couldn't do it. Our son who loves spaghetti couldn't eat his either. I didn't try it but my wife said it was bland. Sent that back as well. We chose not to order anything else because if the experience was that bad, I imagine anything else would be equally poor.

Here's the kicker. The owner decided that since I took a bite (1 bite) from the tenderloin, thus was reason enough to charge us 50% for it. As such, our sons spaghetti we paid for as well. So in the end, we paid for our meal and didn't eat any of it. I understand that you're running a business and have to make money but it's also important to remember that if operating a restaurant, the right thing to do sometimes is to take a small hit when appropriate. It's not worth making an issue about so I paid the bill and we left. But I certainly feel I should share the experience here as it was certainly very disappointing after reading some of the positive reviews.

Whenever we have a poor experience at a restaurant, we typically give it a 2nd chance since everyone has an off night occasionally. This place will not be one of them though. I like to support small businesses but if the business is more concerned about making money than operating with integrity it says all we need to know about it. Hope thise of you who choose to give them a try have a better experience. I however...

We moved to Greenwood, IN late last July and discovered Friend's Diner about a month later. Since that time we visit no less than once a week, and usually, several times a week. We have tried a lot of what they have to offer and I promise you, we've never had a single order that we didn't absolutely love! There aren't too many good ol' American diners anymore, so Friends is a REAL treasure! Their vegetables are all homecooked with no instant potatoes and a wonderfully, fresh and perfectly seasoned taste! They have the best catfish, chicken, meatloaf, grilled ham, fettucine alfredo, nacho salad, etc. we've every tried and that is but to name a few favorites! The service is so down home, friendly and efficient and we just love how Valerie takes such good care of us. Rustie does the same and so does Taylor, and anybody else who has waited on us! The prices can't be beat. And if you want breakfast, you can get one of the best on the planet for a great price and anytime of day. Also, just like their lunch and dinner menu, they have everything you can imagine and all of it perfectly delicious! You can get any menu item, any time; even baked potatoes are served for lunch as well as dinner! If you haven't tried Friend's Diner, you are missing out BIG TIME! Go and I promise, you'll go back again and again...

This place has some of the best food we have had out in a very long time! The menu is huge, they serve breakfast all day and have daily specials. The prices are so reasonable and we loved everything we ordered!

We had a party of 6 for a birthday dinner and they were able to seat us right away. The first table we sat at was directly in front of the AC and we were so cold so they accommodated us moving and were really great about it!

We started with fried mushrooms for the table, 5/6 of us ordered various steaks and the 6th had a chicken dish. The sides were all home made and there was so many to chose from. The chicken n dumplins taste like my home made dumplins! Everyone loved their food, and several of us took home leftovers. Everything here tastes homeade, the portions are generous and the selection cannot be beat! We had to take them up on the offer for homeade desserts, we had chocolate chip cookies that came with vanilla bean ice cream, cheesecake with and without strawberries and I had their amazing peach cobbler with ice cream. We were all very happy with every bite. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu. This is a wonderful locally owned diner...

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally gave it a go. The restaurant is quite small, however, it was very busy when we went on late Saturday morning. We only waited about 10 minutes before we were seated. I cannot remember what it was my husband ordered, but whatever it was, he had nearly a half pound of bacon on his plate! He got his eggs cooked over-easy, and a side of biscuits and gravy came with his meal. He seemed to have liked it. I ordered the Sunshine breakfast. It also came with a side of biscuits and gravy. They gravy a little too thick for my liking. However, it had a good pepper flavor. The bacon was thin and crisy; prepared like it was microwaved. Two things my husband and I agreed on is that the bowl of gravy should be a little bigger (left our biscuits pretty dry), and the hashbrown casserole was the best we've ever had! Even better than Cracker Barrel. We'll be back.

First time visit, heard all good things about Friend's and just had to try it! Walked in around 10:30 on a Thursday morning and was seated quickly, however it took a bit to be greeted by our server. A table came in after us, was seated and had their drinks before we were even acknowledged. Not ok in a small establishment. I ordered a cheese omelet with the hash brown casserole (so yummy) with biscuits and gravy. All the food was hot and very good!! My only complaint concerning the food is that the bowl that holds the gravy is not enough gravy for two biscuits. Once our order was taken, we were served in a timely manner and our server came by to offer coffee and to check if we needed anything quite a few times. All in all I was happy with my first visit at Friend's, I wouldn't hesitate to revisit.

Our last day in Indiana and we went to have breakfast at this restaurant. It was a family atmosphere, very cheerful and obviously a local favorite. The food was fresh and tasty. The only thing I can say we were not happy about is the amount of mayonnaise they use on practically everything. I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich and the menu did not say it included mayonnaise. When I got it it had a thick layer of it. Very gross. And the Swiss cheese they use tasted like anything but Swiss cheese. I scraped the mayonnaise and cheese off. That’s the reason I’m giving them three stars. The portions are very hardy and the servers are very friendly. Next time we visit our relatives again we will try this place once again. And ask for no mayo!
