We were in Philly for a conference and we ordered food from Nirvana to eat on our last day. My fiance and I both ordered the Tandoori chicken. He had basmati rice and I had naan as a side . I got mild and scott got spicy. There were definite pros and cons. Pros were I received 4 pieces of chicken and Scott received 5 and they had SO MUCH MEAT on each piece and it was so tender! It was very well cooked in my opinion. My mild still had a little heat to it but it was definitely bearable. Scott loved his spicy version he said it had a lot of heat but the heat didn't over power the flavor. I tried it and it was way too spicy for me. They gave us a house dipping sauce free of charge with our order and it was delicious! Scott said it tasted like sauce that we usually taste on kadai chicken without the heat. I dipped my naan in it and when I was done he poured it on his rice and thoroughly enjoyed it. The cons for me were the price. For our meal total was a little over $30 which is normally way more expensive than what we pay for at home but it's understandable in a bigger city I guess. Another con for me were the 'veggies' that came with our meal. It was just onion and the onion was very raw. We are used to having peppers with our onions and having them at least steamed. Having veggies more on the raw side could be a more authentic touch. I've never eaten any type of ethnic food outside of the U.S. so I can't really be too much of a judge on the way it was cooked. Over all I really liked it and I would probably order it again if we...
Read moreIf there was an option for zero stars I would have selected that rating. I had put in a take out order and was asked to repeat my order of 12 Naan and 2 plates of chicken lasooni kebab multiple times which I found a little strange. A couple of minutes later the manager Ranjhana calls me to confirm my order yet again and then says the classic profiling sentence - Indians do not come and pick up their food when it is a large order hence she wanted to confirm with me again and asked me to come by 6:30 PM as Indians would have no shows. I was really upset by this attitude and went there to pick my food and expressed my displeasure on the profiling which I was subjected to. The lady either did not have an understanding on how to deal with customers or was not interested to learn that profiling is not a healthy activity. Furthermore my food was delayed as I am sure they were waiting for me to show up before preparing my naan. I told them to hang a board outside stating they don’t accept Indian take out orders!! God knows why they ended up opening an Indian restaurant and more importantly why keep Indians behind the desk when this is something which turns them off. The naans were hard and the lasooni kababs were very dry. I have picked up food before from this place and the quality seems to have...
Read moreI dined here recently for a family gathering of 20ish members. This restaurant is a unassuming little place. From outside, I was like "meh...", but it's nice and cozy from inside. The food was beyond good, and the service was stellar. We had two servers assigned to us and they took care of us amid all the loudness and chaos. We had multiple orders from multiple people for same dishes, and the organized it well where everyone got food at the same time.
Their mango lassi, and mushroom appetizer was out of this world. Everything was above average in terms of taste and quality. Prices are very reasonable compared to other restaurants, and I would gladly pay for the quality of the food.
I would like to wholeheartedly apologize for ridiculous ruckus, bolsterous environment we created for the management and fellow diners. But when family meets after a long time, this is bound to happen... Thank you so much for taking care of us and delivering a special experience for all.
I will be back again! However with...
