The only reason this restaurant is getting one star is because I literally have to in order to leave a review. My parents asked us to meet them here for a birthday treat for my wife. As we arrived, we were not greeted as should be. We were then seated. After looking at the menu, 3 of us decided to get the steak, pepper and onions/ gravy platter. My dad decided on a shrimp platter. When our plates arrived my dad's shrimp was acceptable. Mine on the other hand, there was barely any meat on it. And as I was saying something to everyone else I then notice there was no gravy on none of the 3 platters. As the waitress arrived to ask how things were I told her how unhappy I was. That there was not any gravy or onions on my platter and asked her to take it back. That I would have the shrimp platter instead. My mom and wife kept there plate but even tho it didn't have gravy on it. The waitress came back out and said that the guy in the back cooking said they didn't have any gravy. I told the waitress that that would've been nice of him to have told her when he first got the order. The waitress bless her heart was so embarrassed by this young dudes attitude.. I also asked for a discount for the meat looking and tasting like beef jerky instead of steak & gravy and was refused. However I myself did get a replacement shrimp platter.nnn and then the guy didn't even put my toast on the platter. I asked to speak with the manager but there was no manager. Just three young boys in tje back cooking and the waitress said that she didn't know when the manager would be back that one of the guys in the back that had worked there the longest was in charge. Get it together Hwy 55!! Really.. Where's the supervision of these young adults. Also the 3 fellas kept going in the back of the restraunt at the busiest times, when they shouldve been cooking. Or being attentive and accountable. Very dissaponted in this particular restaurant. And I hate it because my parents and I use to love the atmosphere and how inviting it use to be but not anymore. The poor waitresses are paid bare minimum, working their butt off, while the guys get paid to horseplay and keep hiding around the...
Read moreI REALLY wanted to LOVE Hwy 55, but unfortunately there is not possible. My Pops and I had experienced a rough couple of days and my Pops wasn’t doing so well. He is elderly, not in good health and spirit/ heart was broken after being dragged from FL to a random hotel in Whiteville so, we could attend a family funeral & burial in Crusoe Island. I was desperate in my attempts to comfort him and remembered him telling me the stories about chocolate malts! I Google’d best chocolate malts in Whiteville, near me, etc… EVERY combination = HWY 55! The hotel is across the street from the Sonic, but I drive across town, walk through the door to be stared at like a circus freak! They were almost empty, plenty of employees and exceptionally NOT clean…NOT GROSS, but you could tell that they had been busy and decided to TicTok instead of tidying up. They especially did not want to be bothered with me. When I inquired about malts- they did not know what they were. When I asked about shakes… they were obviously put out that I did not already know what they had- begging your pardon… your fare is not world famous! How was I to know. Please forgive me for my innocent inquiries and assumptions regarding employees and their duties.
If you are local- I am sure this place is delightful! If you are not known to the employees- my suggestion would be to...
Read moreAbsolutely the best burgers around. Cameron?/Camden? the manager and all his staff are great! You won't find better service anywhere. Each of these employees are happy to work there and and each one takes genuine pride with all aspects of working there. My husband didn't care for his burger, he felt it was "weighted" to rush the order out. Our waitress (I am sorry I forgot your name.) sincerely apologized and went and got the manager who explained the cooking process and at our next visit just advise the waitress or him to not have the burger rotated, weighted and rushed. My husband was happy to know that he can request it non weighted/rotated in the future. What really got us was the waitress sincerely apologized, the manager sincerely apologized and even the cook sincerely apogized. Way to go Whiteville Hwy 55. You each took ownership of the problem, did not display an attitude, and by this ensured we will be back. Not many companies/employees will own problems, most just give the customer an attitude and sometimes a generic bland I'm sorry. Whiteville Hwy 55 we enjoyed our visit and we will be back. Thank you for your great food and superior customer service. Keep up...
