San Juan Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Whiteville

Let me preface this review by saying, I want this to come across as constructive rather than critical. I want small businesses to succeed, and it looks like this one has had some success already. However, my visit to this restaurant had significant problems. I had dinner here one night with my kids and other family members on the way home from a vacation. We were all starving and it was around 8pm. We were seated outdoors on the deck. The first problem was that the DJ was playing music VERY loudly outside. So loudly that I felt I couldn't hear my family members talking, and had to shout to place an order. We requested nicely to two different servers that the music be cut down a few notches, but I think we were ignored. 50 cents "Candy Shop" on blast feels much more like a club experience, than what you want to hear during a restaurant meal. Another problem was, the restaurant had several sanitation issues. There was drainage from the back of the restaurant, maybe a grease trap, that could be smelled while we were eating. We witnessed someone carrying a long pvc pipe over the deck and into the back of the restaurant. Additionally, there was a bad smell as we walked by the indoor bar. I thought I was smelling vomit, but not sure. It could've been related to the other drainage issue. Outdoors the dumpster was very much overflowing, providing more interesting smells into the outdoor area. Indoors, the murals on the wall must have been done by a very talented artist. Props to them, but once again the entire vibe seemed to be set on trying to accomplish a club scene. I will say the food was good, the servers did fine. We didn't have to wait long on anything. But unfortunately, instead of being able to relax and enjoy a meal, we spent the whole time fighting off annoyance at various unpleasant things that were impossible to ignore. My wife and I pass this restaurant every weekend on our way back from Charlotte decided to stop Sunday and try it. We walked in and 6 servers where sitting and eating so staff shortage was not a issue. We received chips right away and I asked for hot sauce and never received it. Ordered two entrees and two glasses of water. My entrée came out less than 5 minutes after ordering obviously microwaved without the correct ingredients and still ice cold in the center. The wife's food came out 10 minutes later with deep fried bacon and rice that looked and tasted like it was old and microwaved. My wife is a celiac so the fried bacon was contaminated with wheat from the fryer and was unable to eat the dish. You would think a grilled chicken and vegetable dish would be safe from deep fried anything but buyer beware Then they tried to charge me for 2 sprites then argued with me until I told him to drink it if he didn't believe me. After all this the waiter stood there and stared at me to see if I was leaving a tip. Its sad to say the taco bell down the road probably would have been a better choice. I didn't want to make this comment but I have to. She took my mother to dinner on Mother's Day and we ordered with a waiter and he took the order wrong and they brought me my food and the one she ordered first was my mother. and we told another waiter why her food wasn't coming and she said they hadn't taken the order, my mother was waiting a long time, they brought my food first and she was supposed to be the one who ordered it. the food first and she became desperate and she was not satisfied with returning to this place, it was her favorite, why? The other waiters who were there before were kind and had never made a mistake with the order, we were always satisfied, I took her because it was her day but I rather felt bad for her, there is another issue, and the worst of all is that the I don't know what I had, I don't know if it was bad or the dawn of another day but the hours made me nauseous and had stomach pain, my sister and I got sick, it was my worst...
