I eat here frequently, and normally the service is not this bad, which is why 2 stars—if I was rating specifically my last trip, it would be 1.
When we went in for lunch, we got a table for 2. There was another table of 2 in the restaurant, and no one else. There was one waiter. After tipping up front when we paid (I always tip at least 20%), we sat down and were brought our water. Our waiter brought our food out when it was ready and left without giving me a chance to ask for spicy oil for the table since our table was the only one without it. I walked over to a different table and got the oil myself (not a big deal).
We proceeded to eat our food, and he never came back to check on us (I was going to ask for napkins since the only one that had been provided was the one the silverware was wrapped in). I watched him go and check on the other table a total of 4 times. He never returned to my table to ask how the food was or check if we needed anything else, despite asking those exact questions to the other table. Throughout our stay, we were the only other customers in the restaurant.
After eating, I needed a to-go box for my leftovers. After unsuccessfully trying to catch our waiter’s eye, I had to get up, walk to the counter, and ask the cashier for a to-go box. Our waiter saw this and never came back over to apologize or ask if we needed anything else.
I filled out the link provided with my texted receipt requesting feedback, and was told someone would be reaching out about my concerns. No one ever did.
I have noticed that about half the time when I tip before receiving my food that the service here is definitely sub-standard; it has gotten so bad that I now refuse to tip prior to the end of my meal. It did not user to be like this.
It would be one thing if our waiter had several tables and was very busy, but he refused to take care of more than one table. I am frustrated because I usually enjoy eating here due to the atmosphere and great food, but there is no reason I should tip well and then have to...
Read moreI’ve always considered Il Vicino my favorite pizza restaurant in Wichita. Tonight I was very disappointed. Our family invited another family to dinner and of all places we chose your restaurant knowing you had a nice patio where we could sit. Upon arrival there were only two other tables of people on the patio, one of which we knew. We pulled a couple tables together and we’re quickly told this wasn’t acceptable due to covid-19. After the server said that even his family wasn’t able to put two tables together to allow for his family to sit together, he asked if I’d like to talk to the manager. He was kind but said there was no exceptions. He said if our family was too large to sit at their largest table, that we’d have to split up. This means our family of 6 would have to split between two tables. After considering what to do we decided to order to go. We ordered 10 pizzas and $110 later we took our pizza to the park. While the adults loved the pizza our kids couldn’t have cared less. Pizza Hut would have been 75% cheaper. Different quality for sure but my point was that we went for a dining experience and unfortunately weren’t allowed to have one. I realize this sounds a bit petty. To me though, it was a combination of the anticipation of dining with our friends, the lack of common sense in allowing us to do this together on the patio, and the large amount paid in comparison to what the alternative could have been. To top it all off, the kids drinks were only filled half full since they were kids sized yet if we ate in the restaurant they would have filled them for free. Those few penny’s you saved ended up being the cherry on top for a very poor experience for us tonight.
So, if you have more than a one tables worth of people, choose to dine elsewhere during...
Read moreReally liked this place until I had a not so great dine-in experience. I ordered a Calzone and wasn't very thrilled when I received it, not knowing what it was at first. Then, as I cut it open, there was a strand of hair that I pulled from inside of it. My friend literally watched me pull the hair from the inside. When I brought it up, the older lady who helped me stated that they only have two male workers in the back making the pizza, and if I "really pulled it out from the inside," I was baffled. Why would I lie about that? Another younger lady then assisted me and offered to change it into a pizza and then stated they'll add dessert on the house. I declined. I paid for my pizza, and that's all I wanted. When I got my pizza, I ended up biting into something hard like a rock. It was the pit of an olive, but after the first incident already, I didn't want to sound like a complaining customer. I was not at all thrilled with how the older lady handled the situation by basically phrasing in a way that flat out stated, "Are you sure it's not your hair." I am very sure. I don't think my hair would be tucked inside a calzone and need to be pulled out. It would just be outside, laying on top of the crust and I, and the person who served it would've seen it when it came out. Anyway, I want to thank the young lady who helped me as she was at least professional. This happened about half a year ago, and it still bothers me. I've also never gone back as that experience left a bad taste...
