A group of friends visited the Wine Dive on Saturday, Aug 20th to celebrate a friend's bday and had the WORST experience I have ever encountered at a restaurant. We each ordered a cocktail, a couple appetizers for the table, and our meals. The server was fantastic (did not catch his name) and the drinks were great..shout out to the bartender...and this is where the evening took a turn. Upon our food arriving, the birthday girl was displeased with the burger (no bun) that she ordered. It was overcooked but somehow the bacon ground in it was rubbery. The burger had a texture and color that gave the appearance of being steamed vs grilled and had no discernable amount of the relish or aoili. The table convinced her to return it, as it was her bday and deserved to enjoy her dinner. Shortly after returning the burger the Manager on duty (her name started with an M) stormed to the table with her hand on her hip and demanded we tell her what was wrong with the burger to "ensure we don't return anything else" but never once asked what she could do to make it better or asked if she'd like something else. After explaining what she didn't like about the burger the manager responded with "this is our best seller." For several minutes she stood at the table, getting increasingly louder and more rude, even being asked to leave our table many times but continued to cause a scene in her own place of work.
To make matters worse, the other meals at the table were also lackluster. The lamb burger was over cooked and flavorless. The crab cakes were soggy and the risotta had raw chunks of onion. Neither of which were sent back for fear of being yelled at by the manager! In an effort to quickly remedy this situation we received our tabs and left. The manager refused to provide the owner contact information.
We were a table of disable veterans, accents, and tattoos. I have no doubt that this was a classic case of discrimination and had we "looked" like everyone else, we would have never been treated in this manner.
The server lost out on what would have been a much larger tab with more drinks and desserts and the Wine Dive has lost 5 customers (hopefully many more) over a single hamburger patty! If I was the owner of this establishment I would be embarrassed and ashamed to know that my manager treated my customers in this way.
Bonus: we went down the street to Dempsey's Burger Pub who served a BEAUTIFUL bunless burger and when they got wind of our experience at the Wine Dive, they comped all our food...now THAT is...
Read moreOne of my favorite nice restaurants to eat, it helps that it's in the perfect location for myself! Have had some of the BEST meals here. The food is perfect; the dishes they serve are simply beautiful, the array of seafood dishes to please my salty taste buds, the non traditional meals that aren't what you'd normally find on a fancy restaurants menu but are oh so delicious, and the QUALITY of the food is the best.
I love the atmosphere. Its "cozy" and perfect for dates in the evening, during the day it's bright and inviting! They have a patio for those evenings when you just want to sit, drink some wine, and watch that gorgeous Wichita sunset. The staff has always been incredible. This is a place you can go, and not have to worry about a single thing, because they take care of everything. Once, I ordered the scallops on risotto meal, and as it was brought out and placed in front of me, the manager was right behind the server with a plate with two extra scallops just because he didn't like the size I had received! And these are the huge scallops, the expensive, and utterly mouth watering kind. That's the kind of service you can expect at Mike's Wine Dive.
I always highly recommend this place if your really into wine as well. They actually train the staff on wine. So you won't get a basic answer to your "What do you recommend from the wine list?" question, instead they actually are very knowledgeable!
And another, this one's a secret, because I really just want to keep the information all for myself but I'll share....try the burger. I'm pretty sure it's on the lunch and dinner menu, but it's just the "Dive burger". It is literally the BEST burger I have ever, EVER eaten. Yeah, I said that, that takes commitment! It's the gourmet beef mixed with bacon that makes it melt in your mouth and so so juicy. Topped with melty savory Gruyere cheese. And those tender caramelized onions! Garlic jam & Dijon aioli give it a sweet touch, that is the "cherry on top". I have plans for this burger in my...
Read moreThis is a wonderful little gem. I'm so glad my husband and I discovered it via google maps. The alcohol list is phenomenal. There's almost too many choices! Not to sound to girlie, but the Lebanese violette cocktail was to die for! The wait staff is also incredibly personal to the customer, and it doesn't help that all the gals they have working there are gorgeous! My husband was blown away by the wild boar bolognese. I had The chicken paradelle and I felt that it wasn't overly seasoned in such a way it was subtly inconspicuous with the lemongrass white wine sauce. Sometimes I feel America is in an epidemic of over seasoning everything in such a way we can't enjoy a simply seasoned dish. I usually steer away from certain seafood being so far away from the coasts, but the oysters.... Oh my word, they were the bees knees!!! And the two sauces they served with it was a wonderful compliment. The ahi tuna, also phenomenal, the risotto that comes with it is a great pairing and so filling! The creme brûlée, oh so good. And the sparkling wine the waitress helped pair with it was absolutely perfect. With a sweet dish, dry bubbles are best! The waitress was also so knowledgable of their liquor menu I could have been fooled into thinking she was studying for her wine tasting test! All in all, this is a wonderful intimate place to enjoy with a loved one for a romantic evening or a cultural dinner with...
